I do hope your daughter manages to find a home for her dog.it sounds as though it is the kind of dog that needs lots of excercise and with maybe no children. |

Reading through properly...the baby might not have been around when the dog was rescued so it is unfair to say that should have been thought of perhaps! |

Absolutely Sylvia, by the way, it is not a 'figure of speech' as such ...it is just 'sloppy english' . |

Last May - our pointer cross went to sleep after 15 and 1/2 years. Intelligence was not a word to describe Monty. For a number of years I was acused by OH of leaving handbag open so Monty could raid it until the day he found Monty holding down the bag with his paws and opening the zip with his teeth. Had Monty gone to a home who had never had dogs he would not have last ed past 9 months. I was asked one day what he was like and when I replied 'hell on four legs' she looked horrified. In those days behavourists were not really heard of but in desperation I rang Blue Cross - we visted her and then she came to our home. She told us we were doing everything right for a normal dog BUT we had a pack leader and highly intelligent. We had a cage in our hall for nearly a year. Up to the day he died if he was not allowed to do or have something - he did something naughty. He managed to learn to open 4 different types of kitchen bins - in the end we kept a wrapped brick on it! He opened all doors - walked backwards/forwards you name it - he did it. Cannot imagine having to cope with a Monty and children. He needs to go to an adult family - where someone is at home all day and will play games, long walks- otherwise the circle will repeat itself. |

Chris of Wessex......we have a lab/pointer cross who is a rescue, we had training for some months and yep he was/is the PACK LEADER. He was named Mad Dog by his previous owners and if he'd gone to the wrong home he would have been sent back many times. He's also very intelligent, so loving and so crafty. He's not incharge as much now and knows how far to go, bless him:o))) our best friend:o) |

I was a PA for many years and am still capable of making a typing error. Some of us on these boards can type - others cannot and I assume it is inexperience/dxylexia/fingers not as fast as brain but really do we have to lower ourselves to nitpicking? And I know that word is not spelt correctly but cannot be bothered to reach down dictionary. |

Jude, each time I see the trailer for that new dog film - I think I should have written a book about Monty and sold the film rights. We bought a Kong - had to in those days drive 20 miles for the thing - did as behaviourist said - smeared inside with Marmite and stuffed with biscuits - he threw it around for about 10 minutes - went to the top of stairs - chucked it down - when it hit the bottom all the biscuits fell out, problem solved, Monty 1 - owners nil!!!!!!!! |

I would just like to put on record that I am not a 'friend' of anyone on this thread lol...in that I have no contact with anyone off the board, nor have I particularly 'spoken' to those on here . Therefore if someone wishes to report my comment to Sylvia , please feel free.. |

I didn't make any reference to that part of your comment Sylvia, I agree entirely that no dog should be chained (or tied to anything) unless for a brief period of time for safety reasons or while receiving medical treatment , and never left unattended if tethered in case of entanglement. |

Got to say I feel sorry for the dog. It's all very well being kind in the short run but it won't help the dog in the long run if it doesn't work out. Awdrey is right - go for the Dogs Trust rather than the RSPCA. |
