McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 26 Mar 2009 08:28

What do you say ???

.

Just listening on the radio about the subject and realised that the tradition of quoting ones telephone number on answering seems to have fizzled out and mostly now it's just 'HELLO' ........... or if you have caller ID like I do, it's 'HELLO + name'.

When i lived at home and we first had a phone, my Dad used to do his crunch if you just answered 'hello' lolol

Just wondered if anyone still says their number at all when answering ? ? ?

:O))

I say "Bog off".

No! Only joking. Although I'm tempted to be a contrary cuss and say "Bye", I say "Hello".

Just say hello these days although I used to give out the number. Wont even give my name unless the caller identifies themselves and says why they are calling.

If there is a time delay after I answer I usually disconnect because it is usually one of those automated call thingys where they are trying to sell you something.

If its someone we know it usually comes up on caller display. If its someone I dont know I just say hello. I was advised years ago to never give no. If its someone I dont want to talk to I say sorry youve got the wrong no.

Hello, or if it a a family member normally don't even manage to say that before they've said hi and I know who it is from their voice.

I know a couple who recite their number down the phone, its not a good idea for security reasons, I mean the person calling you should know your number they don't need it repeating. I do understand the point in doing this when they had the old fashioned 'party?'/ shared lines, but now its just wasting your breath.

Not one gets my name or any other details till I know who they are, cold callers either get hung up on or when they ask to speak to Ms X I ask if they could tell me what they are calling about, if its not a cold call they are normally more than happy to explain why they are calling or even say its X from Y.

In fact give us a quid and i,ll go down the pub and ring my mates from there
