Many years ago, my children were entitled to free school dinners, being divorced and therefore a single parent . I registered for them , but they took sandwiches.
The more free school dinners a school is registered for, the more money they get for 'special needs' children.
Unfortunately, the government believes that it is the children who receive or are registered for free school dinners who receive the extra help!
In my experience (in the past) as a LSA and dinner lady, I have tried to disabuse them of this view - having one parent doesn't necessarily mean your children need extra help at school - neither does having free shool meals!

maggie
(2 daughters, neither of whom needed extra help at school - 1 has a BSc, the other is a very valued mother of 2 and ward clerk!)

MUFFY

Hi Dizzi, If you have two kids, answer cut the sarnie half.
My parents divorced many yrs ago when I was 14. For my mum, then on her own, we got free school meals. I understand the stigma, but when it comes to looking after your own & your counting the penniesyou take what you're entitled to.
Muffy your OH is a worker & if the worst happens work wise (god forbid). He's paid into the system & entitled to those benefits for you & your family.
Nothing selfish about that.
