My son came home today ...he text a teacher by mistake with a joke about a willie ...not rude ..but he got told off...

He now tells me thats teachers have bebo and facebook accounts that have their class students on ..

Is this right ??? or am I old

i wouldn't like to think any of mine were put on face book
without my permission .
..........we can't video any school plays without permission , so i think vice versa .

Teacher could be in as much trouble for giving out his own mobile number - shouldn't do it under any circumstance.

I worked with kids that bad inform th school and have a look on face book to see whats on there just in case the info you been given is wrong or if teacher has taken it off

It would have been given to him on paper for use in emergency only - not as a number stored on his phone. He shouldn't have entered it - hope you have made sure it is deleted.

I very much doubt the bebo/facebook thing. Is it just what the students are telling each other or have you actually seen it for yourself? If he can show it to you, then you should report it as it is a breach of the data protection act which teachers have to comply with.

No, it is not normal practice at all!! If we have to give out an emergency contact number, we use the school mobiles or we give out one staff number in a sealed envelope which is only to be opened in a real emergency. They are collected in immediately when everyone regroups.

Does'nt sound right to me.

Face book is almost an open book, once you are a friend of someones your there for loads of people to see!!

l would mention this to the head and the mobile,although that was incase of emergancy, but should he have been left on his own any way at the zoo?

I did not quite understand what you meant.... did you mean that the teacher has put some information about your son on FACEBOOK?
If this is correct I would be more than a little furious if that were my son.
This is not a responsible way for a teacher to behave. I think you should make an appointment and go up to the school.

Just had a call from the head ......

she says its my sons fault ........

But I still cant understand why the teacher gave out her number to the children ..the head says it is because this teacher trusts this class .....!

My son cant go back to classes until he has said sorry ......which he did dueing a meeting today with two other teachers coz the head couldnt be there

Most definitely NOT your son's fault.
Who the H... is the adult here?
I would not let this go if he were my 15 year old son.
We are talking about an adult with the ability to think ahead.... one would have thought so anyway.

I would not be happy at a teacher adding pupils of his school to any social network..or accepting them as friends.its not good policy for any teacher or school.

Hi Kemp I agree this is definitely not right. Don't let school fob you off - if you're unhappy with the way they deal with this ask your local education department and/or Ofsted for their take on it.

I say this as a mum who would not like my kids to be in this position, and also as someone who works with children.
