microwave question

i have given in and got a microwave.........my question is how long do i put a jacket potato in there for......i want to just start it off and finish in the oven, |

if the potato is fairly large, wrap it in damp tissue, and cook on full power for about 6 minutes, turning it over and then doing it again........its really trial and error, depending on its power rating!! good luck, Bob |

I don't know how to do Baked potatoes in a microwave.I always roll them in olive oil and salt and bake them in the oven.The skin is crispy and delicious.We are actually having them tonight. |

Karen, please warn your daughters not to use anything like tupperware in the microwave. back in 1978 my son thought he would be clever, he was 11 and being looked after by his 16 year old sister, microwave quite new, I was at work. He put some jelly sweets into a tupperware bowl to melt them. sugar gets very hot, when he lifted the bowl out it melted, to prevent it making a mess he instinctively put out his hand to catch the drips, which were a combination of melted plastic and boiling sugar. We were back and fro to the hospital (I got called home from work by daughter, luckily only 5 minutes away) for a week while he had the palm of his hand dressed. |

OMG welcome to the 21st Century, I use my microwave for all sorts of stuff, I start my potatoes in the microwave, (prick the skin first) then I rub with olive oil and finish off in a hot oven. |

If doing baked spuds I just prick skin and bung spud in for a few mins - time depends on size of spud. Once I reckon it's nearly soft enuff it goes in oven to finish off and to get the skin crisp. |

I find it handy if I am in a hurry or if i don't want the oven on for ages just for the potatoes. Mainly mine is used for re-heating. Usually veg, baked beans etc. although i do poach eggs in it. |

Scrambled egg is the best done in the microwave. Mix it up in a bowl and cook it on full power, stopping every so often to stir it and mix it up until it is ready. Light and fluffy, doesn't stick to dish and you have no yucky pan to wash :-) |
