YorkshireCaz Report 22 Jan 2009 09:05

OMG that's awful, I didn't think they'd be brave enough to bite. Can you get the rat catcher in, it may be the only way. We have stables at the bottom of next doors garden and seen rats in our garden. I don't know what I'd do if they came my house.

Hi all, we had rats in the loft of our old house, If you were laid in the bath you could hear them coming up the drainpipe. the Environmental Health came out with industrial rat poison which they put down the drains and some in the loft., I remember when i was pregnant with my youngest and it being a hot day i deceided to have a shower, the water smelt a bit funny so i mentioned it to my oh, he had a look in the loft and found a dead rat in the header tank, looked like it had been there for a while. yuk! it was a miracle i didn't catch something from it.

Hi
you didnt say if the Rats are in your House or outside,
If they are outside you can get some good rat poison, you can normally buy it in a big tub which works out cheaper then buying little satchets put a tablespoon or two in a plastic bag like a sandwich bag and push it into there rat wholes with a stick, that way only the rats get it,
we had them down the bottom of our garden, but this got rid of them real quick, keep doing it until you dont fnd anymore. but the trouble is they can die anywhere and you might not find them, also would have to be careful if you have cats,
you can buy some decent rat traps, best bait for Rats is something like cooked sausage. and chocolate or peanut butter for mice.
I live in the country where a lot of people keep livestock so Rats can be a nuisance.
I have cats and every now and again they bring me home a present, thank god they are dead.
My neighbour got one in his house despite having a cat, it was there a couple of days before he caught it, he came down for breakfast and it was sat on the Kitchen window sill!
Have you tried one of those sonic deterents, if they are getting in your house they are meant to be good.
Look on Ebay think they have that kind of thing and traps.
Let us know how you get on
Good Rat Hunting!

Get some big rat traps - my sister lives in a new house and has had rats - she heard them scratching in the loft and bought some traps and caught a couple. Having said that I agree with the other posters - get the council in.
Love Mary xx

You need to call the council they send out the Pest Control and its free, well it is here in S Wales. We've had them twice now and so far no more rats to be seen. Ours come from the river and are attracted by the food we feed the birds with!!
Good luck:o)

Buy a good air rifle with a telescopic sight.

Put a couple of bits of dog food at the end of the garden and wait.

KempinaPartyhat Report 22 Jan 2009 13:37

Ok we have done the lot ...................

Rat man came last year and it took 6 months and more bait than "normal " to get rid

The council in our area dont offer a free service anymore and WONT tell you who to use ...the local radio has tried to help by doing programs on how to cope and who to call

so therefore we cant sue them .....

The area we live in is semi country and has had new building going on around in the last 5 years which has made matters worse ...apart from that we are lucky its a good area!!!!

The enviromential health have been out but its not in their remit!!!! what ever that is .........

Tried live traps but they come to quickley catch one remove it catch another we caught 4 in one evening !!!

We have 2 sonic buzzers and the bloke next door has 4 aswel ..he hates them!!!!

AND last but by no means least

Son had a BB gun !!!!!!!! he had a great time but they dont die they just run of ........!

Thanks so much people I,m really at my end I have been to a friend who has an estate and therefore they deal with the rats all the time he is coming at 2 to see what he can do to help .....

Will keep you up to date

cats get a bit lazy when theyve eaten one, perhaps a small terrier or a polecat (ferret) might help

UP DATE

Right the reason we in this town dont get FREE pest controll is coz we are the first town to DECLARE that our rats are NOT BEING KILLED by the rats poisons that are being used .

So the council has decided to give it a rest treating them !!!

He came and put down a strong poison and will be back in 5 days

They have a terrier next door !!!!! must be a lazy dog!...LOL

Oh and the rats are in our loft
