Just watched it very good, as we have read about them in books etc, its nice to see some of them who went.

My mum told me about when she was sent away. Pity she wasnt still here to see it as she would have liked listening to it.

But sadly so sad story have come out, again read it in books etc.

Pity its only on for 5 days. Hope there is more of them in the new year

What a lot of memories this programme bought to my other half, he was evacuated to Devon from London in 1941 just 5 years old along with his 3 elder sisters.
He cannot remember much about it thou, all he remembers is seeing the sea for the first time.
They were separated he went with the younger sister, the other 2 sisters who were aged 8 and 10 had a terrible time they used to be locked in the basement of the house at night and were only let out in the morning .

A good subject for a thread. I hope you get many answers as there must be many who have a story to tell.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 16 Dec 2008 04:58

Only if you want to fall over Linda.

I recorded it and watched it a little while ago, it's sure to be on again before long, so many repeats these days and close to the original showing as well.

It was interesting, especially the one where the woman was unhappy in Hunstanton, kept getting slapped cos the woman had taken against her.
I love Hunstanton and that area so when I go next time will have a wander and see if I can recognise the place she was looking at - looks like an hotel or something now.

It was lovely when the woman met up with the daughter of the people she was staying with, in Blackpool.

Looking forward to the one tonight.

Teddys Girl Report 16 Dec 2008 12:31

When our School was evacuated, I did not want to go, as my mother had already died, and I thought if I go, and my family are killed, I want to go with them, not be left alone.

Later on my father was sent to do War Work, just outside Blackpool, and I went back with him on one occasion, when the Rockets were hitting London. The place we lived, the woman was just horrible, a very unhappy time, but I made friends with another family, and to this day the daughter my age, correspond, We are both in our 70's and it has become a lasting friendship.
OH and me did manage to visit her and her late mother twice. They gave me a bit of happiness at that time.
