I did think about that Steve .... do I want a bug on my PC though lol It clearly isn't showing up on any searches I have done, so will think about it .... all scans I have done don't find it either .... so perhaps you are right

Ann, totally fed up, and now banging her head against the wall x

Hi Ann,
From what SteveP, Budgie said & the info 2spyware site. You may need to activate this bug before you can remove it. This could be why your previous searches haven't found it.

Good Luck,
Steve

Hi Ann,
You've probably already looked at this on the 2Spyware.com site.
"Remove Winweb Security 2008. Description and removal instructions."

Steve

Hiya Steve .... I did try the Hijack this thing last night... but none of the items they showed came up on the list .... please pm me, maybe I did something wrong ..... it is really getting on my nerves now lol

My avg scan has finished and says I have no infected files !

Peipal Report 8 Dec 2008 15:05

Ann

first of all because you have not actually installed the rogue program that the pop up is asking you to it wont show up using the usual methods stated.

Now as it stands your compute is not infected with anything nasty, if you like this is the same as a bit of junk mail thats come through your letter box, but the idea is to scare you into buying a rubbish program.

So to find and get rid of the pop up you will need to download a program called Hijack This

Can i PM you with instructions ?

Sxx

Steve I have already done that .... as I said, I can't even locate the infected file/programme - It is clearly hidden somewhere as I am continuously getting messages to activate winweb etc ..........

Budgie, I am looking into alternative security at the moment ....

my problem with this winweb is that I have searched my laptop and cannot find it located anywhere ... hence the difficulty in removing it ...

Hi All,
Little Anns problem prompted me to check my security updates. Despite set for daily auto install, it hadn't done so for 6 wks. Checked my PC for security updates at the Windows Security Centre via control panel. Found 17 updates required. Took half an hr to upload etc (mobile internet connection slow).

Ann I'd recommend that you check that your security software have latest updates.

Steve.

Hi Steve, I don't have norton security ... I have the avg 8 free edition .... It is currently running a scheduled scan .... will check results when it has finished ... but somehow I don't think it will get rid of this persistent little thing.

Will report back later :(

Stevie

Stevie Report 8 Dec 2008 12:23

Hi Ann,
Do you have Norton 360 security installed on your PC?

If so this should be on your desk top. Open it, hover cursor over PS Security, from the list provied, click on Run scans, pick Comprehensive Scan & click on go. Hopefully this, or if you have a different security program, should remove this little beastie.

Regards,
Steve
