Come on people!

These boards are becoming so sad and despondent. I know there are some very good reasons for this and I fully understand those particular reasons but can we please bring back some of the fun.

Can we have some silly threads and some laughs? Can we make an effort to just enjoy ourselves?

For those who want to use these boards to throw insults at other people, create cliques, make snide comments - not fine. It's this kind of rubbish that has people ignoring this once-friendly place in droves.

I mean anything that is derogatory, in a personal way, of someone else.

I've personally seen loads of this, but have chosen to ignore it. Perhaps we should say that enough is enough.

I did consider not renewing today because of all the back-biting. But then I thought - hang on a damn minute - I am not letting those bullies bully me off this site. As you have said, too many lovely people are going because of a few. About time we stuck together and started laughing again.

Well i am with you i get sick to the teeth.......with all the snide remarks against peeps, it is about time we stuck together.. there is more of the good ones on here..
if they dont like the funny,, hugs and positive thoughts dont look .. theres a few threads i dont like here to, i go to one i do... as ive only been here 9 months ,, im sick of hearing the nasty remarks.. but what gets up my back is.. about bring back old chat ..well this is all the newbies see back biting and its been going on before we came here...

so lets unite and get the chat back ..........fun and laughter ..........Jgee...

While I agree in theory, I feel that sometimes some people get away with some pretty awful stuff and when someone does wade in and make a comment, snide or not, they are attacked and branded a troublemaker. So speak up, it is your right, but be prepared to be shouted down at times. Great sentiments and I do hope it works, Jill.

I think the main problem is people have difficulties with separating cyber fun with real life.These boards can be addictive and its plain to see that some sit on their PC 24/7 you can tell by some of the threads. “ I won’t be around in the morning I am going shopping “ sort of thing. Some of us have full time jobs and don’t sit on here 24/7 and of course there is them that need the attention.Just sit and watch them for a while as I was advised to do, you soon see who the trouble makers are. Of for my hospital appointed so I wont be a round . lol

I think that everyone uses these boards for different reasons....

There are people who will just flit in and out from time to time checking their hot matches and asking purely genealogy questions.

There are people who started off by doing the above then decided to participate on these threads and make some new friends.

There are people for whom these boards are a way of staying in touch with the outside world, perhaps retired folk, or housebound folk, who are on here whenever they aren't sleeping.

I think this board should be able to accommodate them all - there are different sections to go to for whatever you wish to find - there's a section for "Chat" where people can go and just chat, there's "Tips Board" and "Trying to Find" for the hardcore genealogists - this site can be all things to all people :-)
