Maz (the Royal One) in the East End 9256 Report 28 Nov 2008 12:41

At the moment I have a Hotpoint Aquarius, but it sounds as if someone is inside banging dustbin lids together !! so ... I think I may need a new one! :-((

I am overwhelmed by the number available and would love to hear which ones you recommend - or not!

I can see Beko ones everywhere, but have never heard of them, so does anyone know if they are any good please?

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

thanks STS. Hotpoint has been ok, about 7 years old now and only broken down a couple of times (or is that bad?!)

Julie - just looking at a review site and Zanussi seems to get good write ups - anyone else got one? how noisy are they? My aquarius has always been LOUD!!

Have had an AEG for a few months. Pleased with it recommended by Which.

Fast as it has an economy button and does a wash in an hour.

Not as noisy as Hoover or even the Bosch it replaced.

Linda ;o)

I think 7 years is pretty good these days.

thanks Linda, will go a look AEGs up!

Helen, I did look at the Aqualtis, quite pricey though. but then if it's reliable and economical ...

I suppose 7 years is ok now, but when I think how long mum had her ones!!! ooh they don't make things like they used to !!!

Couple of engineers have told me the same thing - depends on how much you use it - if anything like me 2-3 times a day , one at £280 will last the same length of time as one at £500.John Lewis normally do a good deal with warranties. Agree with you Maz they dont make things like they used to! lol

I have had my Hotpoint 11 years now and had the previous one the same amount of time.
This one has had a few problems but I have a contract for all my 'white' goods so it has kept being fixed.
I think I would probably go for another Hotpoint, in the past 30 years I have only had 3 of these and no other washers.

I have a Whirlpool, no complaints and does a good job. Don't notice the noise as it is not in the kitchen. My mum only ever had two machines, a Bendix and a hotpoint. the hotpoint finally packed up a couple of years ago, must have been 20 years old at least. My previous machine in UK was a Hotpoint and was very good. Gave it away before we moved out here.

Sorry, jumping on this posting again. Had a look on john lewis web site-they do sell all of the above machines. They are doing a 2 year warranty with washing machines and a 5 year one with all televisions, might be worth a look. x

I only use 2 or 3 programmes although I do 2 washes every day for my lot.

I've tried lots of machines and now stick to Indesit, almost the most basic one that does 1100 or more RPM. It's brilliant and also cheap.
