First time I saw Doddy was 1965 at the London Palladium - we could only get tickets to first show - we cam out 3/4 hr AFTER the second house should have begun. For some years now he only does one show per night but the one show runs longer than the two shows. He always warns people at the beginning they will be going out tomorrow and ask if they have a thermos and sandwiches. All ages go from youngsters to the very elderly - all enjoy themselves. 12.30 a..m. and 12.40 a.m. I have exited a theatre and then the drive home -usually about an hour! God bless him and all those comedians who have made us laugh without reverting to four letter words which are not funny anyway.

Dawnie,

I saw Ken Dodd a few years ago and he did warn us right at the start of the show that it would be a long one, half time came at 10.30pm so it was gone midnight when we left.

I am not a prude and a risky joke in the right place with the right people can be entertaining, but why such foul language and filthy joke are allowed on TV and radio, is beyond me.

I think it very noble of Andrew Sachs and his granddaughter to have accepted the apologies, me...nah, I would have taken the pair to the cleaners.

There is an 80 yr old on tour continually and within a 3 days his new show at The Palladium (London) was sold out. He has never used bad language, offended people, does do tongue in cheek and his name is Ken Dodd.

I agree the media has blown it up NOT everyone had heard but it they thrive on stories like this - younger men bullying an older man - bullying is never right but the BBC is at fault here and such a respected establishment they should have stopped it before they even got this far

Not totally sure what I think of this. It certainly doesn't deserve all the attention it's getting but I do think they crossed a line that shouldn't be crossed. It doesn't matter what Georgina Baillie does for her living, it doesn't justify Brand and Ross upsetting her 78 year old grandfather for entertainment. I also think it should have been dealt with much more quickly and we might not have all this hooha now.

Does it matter what his grandaughter does for a living - the fact is they have committed a crime - I certainly would NOT like anyone saying anything like that about my girls - they have proved their jobs are more "sleasy" than hers !!!

The number of people who listened to the broadcast is irrelevant.

It was an offensive thing to do however many listeners were tuning in.

The BBC is supposed to be a broadcasting company with high standards which are respected worldwide. This is a shameful thing.

Whether or not the comments had any basis in truth is also beside the point and the fact that Russell Brand was prepared to discuss the private life of this poor girl on radio and to leave messages to her elderly grandfather means he is a miserable excuse for a man. Jonathan Ross should have been older and wiser but he has proved himself equally immature and unpleasant.

We expect better of the BBC. I suppose there is a place for sick humour on some insignificant satelite programme preferably in space! That would be quite humouress watching JR and RB be launched into space!

I agree with Silverlady, whether she's a burlesque dancer or a nun is irrelevant, they didn't have the right to do what they did.

If Mr Sachs grandaughter wants to be an exotic dancer and sleep with a moron thats up to her but I do not want to hear about it on any BBC programm.
I do not pay my licence fee to hear and see that kind of behaviour.

Sue Report 29 Oct 2008 16:39

I dislike the pair of them so perhaps my view is biased but personally I wouldn't miss either of them.

The BBC should have the guts to fire them both. Afterall it's not as though they don't have plenty of other commercial contracts to ensure their inflated incomes don't drop too much.

A storm in a teacup!

Why on earth did Gordon Brown feel he had to pass comment? Hasn't he got something more important to think about like the impending recession?

The complaints only came in once the media picked up the story.
The original 2 were over the use of the F word.

How many people actually heard the original broadcast? How many people sought out the recording after the media grabbed the story?

Making obscene telephone calls is illegal; to broadcast them is beyond comprehension.

I have heard Mr Sachs accept their apologies.

I wouldn't be surprised if the suspension is temporary and that in a few months' time the matter will be forgotten by most people except Mr Sachs and his family.

Sack them both.
From a former fan of both "men".
And no, this hasn't got out of proportion: they're supposed to be grown men, for God's sake!
For those that say it's a lot of fuss over nothing, Sharron, with respect: how would you feel if your grandfather received such a call?
