Bellblair. Nice to meet you. Will note you advice. Machine has been collected, and I mentioned about the baby alarm, and she said it would pick up if I'm using a cordless phone, which I do. Said to use an old fashioned phone with a wire attached, as they can't pick up a signal from that. Either that or use my mobile. They will advise me of what the recording shows up, and said it had been recording but was full, so if they know it's gonna be full so quick, then why leave it so long til they come back for it?? But she admitted she should've left me a contact number when they left the machine, so has now given me direct numbers for the team to contact them at night.

Merlin. No point in doing anything like that, cos I would only suffer more. It sounds so tempting, but it won't solve the problem. Glad it workd for you though.

Vods,If you,ve got or can get a decent "Stereo Outfit" with large Speakers Face them to their wall,the stick on the "1812 Overture" at full chat,making sure that it will be continuous,they,ll get the full blast of it "Cannons Included",then go out for a couple of hours with it left on.It works. At least it did for me.**M**.

Not sure if we have met but may I offer a small bit of advice, we have bad neighbours and we had to keep a record of everthing that they did, times dates etc. Also you must keep onto the police even if they say nothing to do with them they have to log every call, and if its more that 20 times they can and should have an ASBO put on to your neighbours.
I hope you get some sort of conclusion very soon.

Liz, I got a sleep thanks.

My other neighbours on the other side don't have a carpet on the hall or the stairs and have a young kid that clomps about her shoes don't think they have slippers. Anyway waiting for the council to come to uplift the sound recording equipment, and I swear if it comes backs 'everyday household noise' I'll let the kids make as much noise as they want when they're here. If you can't beat them join them lol

Reminds me of a time, when there was a very noisy party at the back of us. We were OK as we slept in front of house, but my neighbours were kept awake. So they went round to the next street in their car, in the morning, and played music outside the house, while they were sleeping in.

I did laugh at this.

Shelly is right about the baby intercoms. When our little lad was a baby we actually heard our neighbour having a wee then flush the toilet and turn the taps on to wash her hands.

We had to let them know just in case we heard something we really shouldn't have. lol

Oh, and it wasn't a next door neighbour, she lives opposite us so they can pick noise up from quite a distance.

keep a log of when the noise starts and ends i.e.
Date, time started, time finished, degree of noise like loud very loud. If you have a recorder and can record their noise great you can say the date and time etc. So a second record.
This will help if the council get involved re arbitration or noise abatement. I know some councils have confiscated equipment in the past.

I hate noisy neighbours - the people next door here are so stupid, the girlfriend tries to teach the dog to howl as if he is singing, and the bloke's father comes round when the bloke is at work, to see to the dogs,and he can't walk in from the front door without slamming every door through to the back behind him. Then the chap who lives there revs his Discovery truck every morning at 5.30am and as he parks it under the bedroom window, we get all the fumes up and often he starts it up and leaves the engine running for up to 10 mins while he is getting ready for work.

At my own house, I used to have a couple of doctors, gps, there who would play loud classical music all the time till I went round and told them how much it echoed, they had wooden floors in the room where they had the stereo and it seemed to make it echo so much. They moved away and there is just a single middleaged physiotherapist there now, but she has an ocd problem with checking the door is locked so before she goes out I used to hear her trying the back door handle fifteen or twenty times, I used to shout out, It's locked now Ruth to her lol
The people who bought the house on the other side where our staircases are next to each other, took up the carpet on the modern open plan staircase so you hear everytime anyone runs upstairs, so noisy. As I am not living there at the mo, I am not bothered and house is up for sale again anyway but when I get back there will hope I get some quieter people in there. It's a hall entrance terrace but with the back gates in an alleyway so no passages between the houses, keeps them warm but not much privacy.

Vicky - I feel for you. I'm generally alone, and don't usually make much noise - so the neighbours (2 teenage children) didn't realise how much of their noise traveled. When daughter stayed here, she used to go into her room and play music very loudly - which must have given them some idea!!
I was doing a lot of hammering today, (between 11am and 5pm and the cheeky wotsits were hammering back. Fair play you may say - but their son plays the drums and the electric guitar, and I have been off work ill and had to put up with it. I also have it noted that, when they first moved in, they were laying stair carpet at 4 am!!! I know because their stairs are next to my bedroom!! they also seem unable to close their front door without slamming it!

I'll remember that in future Shelly and use the phone in the hall, kitchen or bedroom.

Well, they won't need to turn it off on my account, unless I still snore as bad as I did when I smoked lol

Didn't think about that. Are they that powerful though?

When I bought this house it had been privately rented, and one of the previous tenants told me about the noise they had from them.

So Steve, it isn't me being paranoid.

Would love to do something like that, but am waiting the results of the recording equipment.

Vods, I am sorry to hear this is making you depressed. I wish I could do something to help. Good neighbours are hard to come by.

I have lived next to my present neighbours for 18 years (we are semi detached) and I have to say, I think we are the noisy ones. I have had 4 children in that time now grown to 3 teens and one 9 year old. I have shouted at them and me & OH have shouted at each other, there has been music blaring out from every floor, TV's on with music, cartoons etc. Kids running around all over the show. Friends joining in and various DIY projects going on including a loft conversion some 3 years ago. During all that time my neighbours have never once said we are too noisy, but I can hear them if they hammer a nail in the wall, so God only knows what we sound like!!

We try to be as considerate as we can. I have always asked the kids to turn their music down after 9 oclock as the man next door gets up at 5:30 for work and we also turn our TV down. DIY projects are always mentioned to the neighbours as are teenage parties when I am away on hols!!!!!

It doesnt take much to be considerate and in return our neighbours have always been very understanding of our large, noisy family!

So please everyone out there consider your neighbours at all times, your usual living might be sombody elses nuisance noise!!

Council and police say your neighbour is supposed to advise you if they are having any work done that will be noisy and affect you.

Moved here to get away from a nutter who lived below me in a private rent house, and that council said they couldn't do anything as it was a private house, but they didn't tell me I could involved the asbo team.

Yesterday morning we were woken by banging from next door. I came downstairs to find a note through the door to say they are knocking down an inside wall.
They started again at 8am this morning.

I don't think we'd ever do that to anyone on a Sunday morning but then their kids have woken us by playing outside before 8am on summer mornings.

Their son is teaching himself the guitar everyday.......oh joy!

I think I may need to get our younger daughter to come back home and do some saxophone practice.

You have my sympathies.

I use subtitles, but I don't have my telly loud anyway, as it would drive me mad.

Just as a thought Vods, instead of trying to compete have you considered, earplugs or headphones for your TV, PC, music?

If you can cut out the racket from the neighbours you may not feel as wound up by the whole affair and eventually your neighbours may reduce their noise.

I know you may feel that they are winning but its for peace of mind.

My daughter wears her earphones all the time for her Ipod- she says it cuts out the nagging!! Teenagers!!
