Pat from Wesham

Pat from Wesham Report 26 Oct 2008 14:06

Andrew 14 my youngest has to go into Preston Hospital to have an operation on Thursday, his adult canines have grown straight back into the roof of his mouth instead of coming down, so they have to extract the two baby teeth that are still in place and expose the teeth in the roof of his mouth then glue small gold chains to these teeth which will then be attached to a brace.
Also he takes after me and my older two and has a gap between his two front teeth so while they have him under they are going to cut the piece of skin between his top lip and gum.
The are putting him out using a general anesthetic to do it, always a worry, but they have no option.
A very sore grumpy 14 year old too look forward to.

Hope all goes well for Andrew, it certainly sounds as if he will have a sore mouth so, maybe a few treats are in line.

Thank you Ladies,
We have to be at the Hospital for 8 oclock and we have to wake him at 6.30 to make him drink a glass of clear liquid, so he will not be dehydrated.
Daughter said give him vodka thats clear and then he won't care what they do to him.
She loves her younger brother really lol

Kemp I havn't told him about the getting up early bit yet.

How did your daughter get on?

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 26 Oct 2008 15:46

She screamed coz she didnt know he was taking them out in the chair ...so he did two then had to go back for other two .........

She came out the dentist on the first trip and said ..."wish I had them done today now I got to come back" .......

She is 13 now and her teeth are beautiful ....

Is this his FIRST general ???

KempinaPartyhat

KempinaPartyhat Report 26 Oct 2008 15:48

Her teeth were up by her nose in her gums and just popping out the roof of the mouth ...so we had to take to second teeth out so the BIG ones came down .....

baby teeth NEED to come out coz they leave a gap which almost "tells" the second ones where to pop in .......

Just back from Hospital, all went well and Andrew is already eating, be it soft foods at the moment, (I knew his stomach would win out)
The inside of his mouth looks really cut up but as they gave him anesthetic injections in his mouth as well as a general anesthetic he can't really feel any pain as yet, sent us home with Ibuprofen and paracetamol so we should be ok.
He has a lovely pout looks like he has been at the botox. LOL
Must admit to crying when they sent him to sleep though, he might be a five foot nine solid brick of a lad who towers over me, but he is only 14 and still my baby.

Glad he got through it OK. Hope it isn't too painful when it comes round. Bound to be sore though.

Bless, hope he feels ok when the anaesthetic wears off.
My son's eye teeth didn't come down and his baby ones were finally removed but not soon enough and our dentist who I trusted did nothing so my son still has them at angles in his gums, you can't see them, and big gaps between his teeth. I had one of mine grow high up in my gum so it was removed but that was in the 1950s, so thought they would have been able to do more for my lad. I should have pushed for a visit to orthodontist or something but didn't realise quite what would happen. I spent a few days staying with a dentist in Edinburgh when my lad was 18 and she said the dentist should have massaged them down a bit or something, but too late now, son is 26 and doesn't seem bothered. His gappy teeth seem to suit him but I am sad as I tried hard to look after his dental health and am disappointed he doesn't have a full even set. Seems to be a thing in our family as my brother had wonky teeth too and had to have his front ones out as they crossed over each other. My son's father's teeth are slightly slanted backwards and very close together too.
At least your son will have a great smile eventually.

My eye teeth are crooked due to a crowded upper jaw.
Can't say they have caused any problems other than a couple of fillings and some discolouration, which my dentist has recently fixed.
Being hit in the mouth by a cricket ball didn't improve matters either !

Thanks
Ann, Gwyn, Liz and Karen, Ouch Brian.

I have a lovely fetching gap in my two front teeth (according to my OH) I have spent most of my life with it so would look strange without it.
I do not think they would have bothered so much with Andrews if the teeth had not grown straight back into the roof of his mouth, and they thought that while they where doing that they might as well try to minimise the gap he has also got by cutting the suckling skin between his two front teeth.
It looks YUK

I had a gap between my front teeth when they first came in, you could put a sixpence between it (that's dating me lol) Was always told it meant I would be rich! then the other teeth came down and the gap closed up, and tightened so there is no room for flossing between them! Needless to say, my finances have shrunk with the gap and things are as tight as my teeth lol
Oh well, maybe one day my son will be mega rich if his gaps are anything to go by lol
