Your very lucky Paul.......in these days with all the day time tv programmes about antiques / collectables every one is an "expert".........but the odd item slips through the net of the eagle eyed.

: )

The jumble sale elite getting all the Mings.Do they look like they found the Mings? In my experience many of them do ming a bit.

We used to watch a woman who went to every jumbly in town to see what she brought home that week. The best day was when she went walking by pushing her shopping trolley with a ladder in it.

She always wore the same clothes.

My aunt put her walking stick on the table to try something on and they sold it.

Lol Sharron.........did your aunt manage to get her walking stick back ?

Strangely enough " the Stinkers" weren't about today.........perhaps they knew that there would be no bric-a brac for sale.

I don't know about the walking stick.

I have too many books I have bought at jumblies.
There used to be Nelson Birthday lectures in Portsmouth Library.A man did a couple of lectures about the John Franklin expedition and, naturally, I had to argue the pont about something. He mentioned that I would never see the book but the definitive answer was in the R.J.Cyriax book. Well,of course I will see the book, I've got it (silly man).

Apparently the book was printed in 1939 and stored in a warehouse that was bombed. There are hardly any copies in the world. Mine must have come from a jumble sale.

I have e-mailed a couple of dealers to find out what it is worth but they don't reply. They think it is a wind-up.

Sharron...........have you thought about taking your rare book into an antiquarian book shop ?

I've got a copy of The Brittanica by Camden., my Dad rescued it off a dump at a gravel pit back in the 50's........sadly it doesn't have any of the maps in it ( they are each worth a small fortune ) but the book itself is rather beautiful. He had it re-bound in the 70's.

I don't really trust antiquarian bookshops.

I know what you mean Sharron .

Well it must be worth a great deal if it is that rare.

How about asking a museum if they would know its value ?

It will probably go into the naval collection in Pompey Library one day.

Shame the jumble sale wasn't up to much Amanda, I must suggest my son goes to some sometimes, he goes to charity shops and gets things and sells on ebay for a profit, he has two body boards in his flat at the mo lol, paid very little for them! Not sure how he will send those on, will have to sell locally methinks!

Better luck next time!
