Bulk Buy....I'v started buying huge packs/boxes of washing powder, toilet roll, tea bags, sack of potatoes etc. Not only does it save energy and time doing a reduced weekly shop it really does save you ££££££££. Of course the initial outlay is pricey, but if you can find a way to do it, you'll never go back.

Hi all - I'm veggie and all broc/cauli stalks get cooked with the veg and then blitzed into thick soup which I freeze in one portion-size tubs.

After I've had roasted veg, especially after having visitors who never eat as much as me, put left-overs into layers of lasagne and cheese sauce and freeze. J*

If you live alone and can't use big packs of things before they go off, either cook up one big meal from the items if applicable and freeze in portions, or share the pack with another single friend and pay half each of cheaper price.

I often cook up a huge pot of savoury mince when our local supermarket has special offer price on best mince, adding lots of vegetables etc then freeze it in portions, so can quickly and easily be defrosted and used for a quick meal with pasta, rice or mashed potatoes. Handy if money is short too, if you have some stocked up in freezer, when payday is a few days off and the bank account is low.

Never run your freezer empty, use clean blocks of polystyrene packaging or bags of the polystyrene chips to fill empty spaces in drawers, shelves etc or get a couple of reduced loaves of bread to fill up space, take a few slices out at a time if you don't use much bread. Buy bags of frozen onions, peppers etc from Iceland shop and use to bulk out mince dishes, gravies, omelettes and such. Use left over cold potatoes, and other veg in frittata. To make meals for kids go further buy those big yorkshire puds from supermarkets that only take a few mins to heat up, supermarket own brands are very good prices, and fill with stew or potatoes, sausages and veg. Buy the better quality sausages that are more than 80% pork, there is very little fat coming out and a couple are filling with lots of veg and rice, couscous, potato etc.

Take all paper from junk mail, that is plain on one side and keep for shopping lists etc. Also cut envelopes and cereal boxes etc into usable sizes to write messages and lists on, notes for the milkman etc.

Mac. Glad you're better.

I save on the heating by lying on the couch with a duvet over me, and when I go shopping I always make for the reduced section. I got three bit chicken breasts for £2.00 yesterday.

Well, I would suggest admittance to hospital but even though mum has been on her own for nearly two weeks she's probably spending more because she's too knackered and fed up to cook so we've eaten out more. That said, if you go to morrisons you can have two cheese toastie & chips meals with 2 free drinks for £4. That's not bad...£2 each.

I have a good way of cutting down on my food bill.
I usually have it delivered as I work almost full time, But you could still do it if you go in the shop.

First I go to the 'offers' section in the shop. I pick out all the things that we could buy for main meals, i.e meat, pies, chicken nuggets. Whatever you might like.
I buy enough food to make 7 family meals (1 for each day), Using the ones on offer first.
I then buy all the extras that we might need, Like milk, butter, bread, etc.
Then I buy all my household items, bleach, toilet roll.
Lastly it is luxury items, Cakes, Sweets etc.

By only buying for 7 meals and taking advantage of offers I have cut my shopping bill by about £25 per week.
We are a family of 5 and this week I spent £60 on my shopping.

Don't be a carer.Fifty quid a week and don't automatically qualify for a lot of the concessions other people on benefits do.

Bah humbug!

Save your £2 coins. I don't get many of those but I stack them up on the shelf in the bedroom and don't spend them ... soon adds up. No idea what I'll spend it on but hopefully chocolate or alcohol or something equally necessary - LOL!

Don't use expensive face cleansers to remove make-up, use Aqueos Cream. An enormous tub is about £2-50. I've been usng it for years as I'm allergic to lanolin and got fed up with searching for and buying expensive cleansers that didn't have lanolin, only to find after a while, my face erupting with dry skin and scabs - to find they'd 'improved' the stuff and added lanolin!!!
