Yes Claire ....I know but My uncle is 72 and from Wales ...he was an only child and him and his wife dont have children ....she one of that intresting lot !!! So I said I would look at his side .....and let him know

Kemp they kept mentioning Newport so maybe they married there. Newport was in Monmouthshire which during my lifetime got moved to England & back again!

I have to agree with Muffy. I kept having to recap tomyself (something I have never had to do before) and why oh why did they never touch on his father's side except for the detail his father was a Harley St doctor and died aged 42?

Also on researching Master Mariners - about 12 years ago son and I went to Guildhall Library - found some members of my tree but not either of my g.fathers/father/uncles and I had their dates of birth and in some cases their nos. Purchased a book specifically aimed at tracing Merchant Navy - go to Kew it said - I did all my work in advance - and zilch - nor could I get any help from any of the desks. Never until tonight have I heard of going to the Maritime Museum at Greenwich and yes all of mine passed their Masters in Liverpool as they were all from there.

That cert was in English & Welsh but up until 20-30 years ago, Welsh was pretty much a dead language in Sounth Wales.

My birth cert is at least 10 years old than I want it to be & is written in English. I'll check Dad's when I see him to see if his is just in English but I'm pretty sure that cert that just "happened" to be knocking around was a recent copy.

I just wish they'd show the long waits we have for certs & the expenses we have to pay out

We may have been bored ,but I bet it was interesting for him.Maybe it wasn't the best choice to show on tv,but he will have found out something of his past.That is what it is all about.I wish I could do that.

He went to Germany to look up those records I was supprised they let him
