While i was putting my little ones lunch out today it occured to me that sometimes we say such strange things, take for example little one said to me " is it true that eating fish gives you brains ", " or course it is ", i replied. Then the other day i said she was to eat all her crusts up to give her curly hair ! and eating carrot makes you see in the dark !

What i am trying to say is where do the sayings come from ? is it all a big swizz to make your children eat ? or is there some truth in it all ??

I think I heard there may be some truth in eating lots of carrots for seeing in the dark!!!Don't know where I might have heard it though.

I was just curious to know if anyone thought the same as i did regarding the fish lol!! Thanks Island i couldn't have said it better myself. But i suppose its worth a try to get the kids to eat something.

Little one only wanted fish and chips so she could give the new kitten some, cheeky monkey !

Little one always says i can't eat my crusts cos i'm full, then five minutes later comes back looking for icecream, needless to say she doesn't get it.

She has a friend who only eats pizza crusts they make a right pair between them. lol!

Came across this -
"Recent research shows that fish is much more than just an alternative source of animal protein. Fish oils in fatty fish are the richest source of a type of fat that is vital to normal brain development in unborn babies and infants. Without adequate amounts of these fatty acids, normal brain development does not take place."

I always ate my crusts and I do have curly hair, however I have a feeling that might be just coincidence!

Another saying i believe is that if you eat loads of garlic you never get a cold ? is this true ? i don't know about a cold you'd never get any friends either lol!.

Or if you eat a barley sugar / green apple or sit on a pile of newspapers you won't get travel sick ?

Teresa probably is true about the garlic as no one with the cold will come close enough to you to give it to you.

*Christine*, the Germans use onions as a cold remedy too, they boil them for ages and then drink the water - yuk!

*Christine* ,I use the same cold remedy, but use whiskey not brandy, sometimes we omit the water and just warm the rest in the microwave!
