As a black doll has been mentioned - I too had one she was named Topsy - however my father told me she was black as not only had she been bought in Blackpool but that she was born in the blackout! Topsy had long gone when my g.daughter wanted a black doll. Word went out to friends and family when you are travelling and see a black doll please buy it - after about 18 months her gdad and I found one - in Lubeck, Germany! In the eighties we travelled quite a bit and on three occasions found myself in various parts of Africa and then the Caribeean during the Christmas run-up and the shops all decorated - lots of dolls and not a single black one. I found that so weird. I hope this g.gchild in the future appreciates the Golly! |

Gollywog is a no-no but think you get away with Golly....By the way black friends of mine think the PC brigade are hilarious and totally out of touch but then a lot of the PC brigade arent black lol. As well as Golly I had a black collie dog as a child called Nigger again these days not acceptable. |

toy whilst in sunny Wales to be wrapped and labelled for my first g.gchild! Expected perhaps in next 8 to 10 years! This toy so reminded me of the happiness a similar one gave to me as a child - he is so smart, he has a waistcoat and a tailcoat and has striped trousers - can you guess? |
