There are two greek letters that are O with a line either vertically or horizontally through them. They're not Omega though.

Vertically = Phi
Horizontally = Theta (although I think it's more a ~ than a -)

Bev... don't confuse me with questions like that.;-0)
An 'O' is a big enough problem for me.
When reading an address, is it an 'O' or a ZERO??
Eldrick will tell you when he sees you.

As Anita says, if it's a diagonal 'slash' then it's a zero

Hubby always puts a slash through the number 0.. He was trained to use that by the military..... also a little line at the base of a 6.... to show that it is a 6 and can't be turned upside down and confused with a 9, lol

The reason there is a slash across it is to differentiate between an 0 (zero) and an O (capital letter o)

Europeans use it all the time, although less common over here.

My wife always put a slash though her 7's. And she was a scouser......!?!

MrDaff

MrDaff Report 17 Sep 2008 18:26

yep..... absolutely!! It was the way he was taught... he was also taught to write things in capitals, in a very specific way... the Royal Signals taught him, although he wasn't with them.. it was the way they transcribed the old Morse code.
