Dallas, have you met FreeBMD? ;)

http://www.freebmd.org.uk
(click on the red "Search" in the lower left)

Easy as pie and a fraction of the price: free!

It's crappy for fuzzy searches though (if something is mistranscribed or not spelled as you expected).

I think you can use the Ancestry version free:

Births
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8912
Marriages
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8913
Deaths
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8914

Ancestry does much better on finding things you weren't looking for.

Um, if he was born in 1871, then his father can't have died in 1866, looks like some porkies were told in the family maybe?

What about the one that Sue offered?

I have baptisms for Lepton but not found him and I had same thought that he may not have been registered.Forgot to mention that Edgar's father Henry died in 1866,he used Henry;s name as father on marriage cert.

Registration of births wasn't compulsary until (I think) 1875 but I have births a few years after that that weren't registered - best try for baptisms.

I was wondering if anyone can help solve this problem.
I have been searching for a birth of a Edgar Haigh c1871 in Lepton,Huddersfield, parents Eliza Haigh (Beevers) and Henry Haigh,he appears in the census's of 1881 age 9,1891 age 19 and 1901 age 28.I have used the GRO,but to no avail,I have ask the local registar to do a search for me, they did not find anything from 1869-1873.
