WHAT'S YOU VIEW ON THE REFUSAL OF THIS MEDICATION IN ENGLAND AND WALES, DUE TO THE COST.

think it is disgraceful they give methadone and needles to drug addicts, but wont give these drugs to cancer patients.
SHAME ON THEM

Quite Jackie. But this happens with a lot of life saving drugs.

It angers me when I see the junkies getting their methadone given out to them in the chemist.
How many of them have ever worked an honest day in their lives?

The thing that never ceases to puzzle me on this sort of question is why do the drug companies create drugs that cost such a massive amount ?....what are these drugs made out of that they end up with an unrealistic price tag on them ?

thousands of people donate money to cancer research........drugs are created in due course yet the price ?......what is the point ?

Think is's a disgrace. These people have paid there taxes and have a right to free health care. What the health service need to do is get rid of a few of there useless managers that would be more cost effective than someone losing there life.I would not be happy to hear that if it was one of my relatives.

that poor woman from salford who took her case to the high court and still the ptc refused her the drug sutent, she has had a very generous person donate 10.000 pounds so she can now receive this drug but what a worry for her at a time when she is terminaly ill makes me so angry

Disgusted, they provide drug addicts with Methodone for no cost and their probs are self inflicted.

Jackie

Jackie Report 7 Aug 2008 22:41

do you need these drugs vods?

Not personally, but I do need drugs for breast cancer.
I was lucky, as I was one of the early women to have Herceptin. Luckily my local Health Board has one of the best Breast Cancer Units. So I can understand the patients feelings of what basically boils down to 'neglect' in my eyes.

Just my personal opinion.

it makes me so sad when there are treatments known to work and they tell us that they are not coct effective,
these are peoples lives they are talking about i dont care how much it costs they should be able to haveit
if the polititions took a drop in wages and expenses then we could afford it

While I agree that these drugs should be available the cost to the health service for Avastin is in the region of £25000 for the 6 months it will prolong a life.

As for Methadone, at aproxiamately £3.50 a month it is good value. Think of the amount of crime that is connected to drug abuse and you'll understand my reasoning.

If we start along the path of denying Methadone to addicts how long before we stop treating overweight people who develop type 2 diabetes, smokers, social drinkers and eventually anyone who doesn' t "Conform"

Agree with some of your points Janet.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and no offence is meant to anyone.

But most cancers are not self-inflicted.

Janet 693215

Janet 693215 Report 7 Aug 2008 23:05

Forgot to say that Avastin is one of the drugs concerned.

Janet 693215

Janet 693215 Report 7 Aug 2008 23:18

I couldn't make the decision to deny someone a drug they needed however I know there is a limited pot from which these funds come from.

So what is the answer?

Please don't think I am saying that cancers are self inflicted. (Obviously some are, Lung cancer in smokers, stomach and throat in drinkers, bowel in those on a high fat, low fibre diet)

No offence meant Janet, my now 38 year old foster son, doesn't live with us since he was 18 and left of his own choice, is a drug addict, have attended re-hab centers, and more prisons than I like to mention. He is clean now, but still labelled an addict and we still love him and he says that our sticking with him helped the most. We visit him at his home an hour's drive away and he knows we are there for him. He knows my feelings on self inflicted probs and accepts them.

Grabagran Report 7 Aug 2008 23:22

MB. Well done to your foster son. No doubt having you stand by him has made it easier for him. I wish him all the best for the future, and hope someone will give him a chance to prove himself.

Janet 693215 Report 7 Aug 2008 23:24

Why would I be offended? I wish you're foster son all the best. I hope he stays clean and finds the life he deserves.
