McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 24 Jul 2008 18:18

I had my cast removed last Friday, after the scan result showed no fracture just severe bone bruising - mainly in my right hand of course, but also some in my left thumb.

It wasn't a very pretty sight and i spent a good 10 minutes in the plaster room with lots of warm soapy water (lucky i was their only customer lolol)

It was very painful to start with but as the days pass i have gained more mobility and only have tenderness if i am not careful what i do.

I was given a support to wear but it wasn't very fetching so i now have a couple of supports with thumb splints, to wear for anything repetitive or likely to cause a strain, as the thumbs need the most support.

It was a bit strange feeling at first, but then i have to admit to taking great pleasure in doing some simple tasks like washing up lol ............. oh and what bliss to have a bath and shower etc and be able to use both hands lol

All I am waiting for now is to get the car tax renewed at the end of next week for August and i can get back on the road - oh i have soooooo missed my driving - and the walking to and from the train is slowly wearing me and my legs to a frazzle :O(

And that's it ...................... lol x

Glad to hear the cast is gone, hope the recovery is speedy. Did you get a little squishy ball to do exercises to build the strength back up in your hand and forearm?

Take care

Well it sounds like they're slacking off LOL. 6+ weeks with a cast on they should have given you some exercises. Holding and lightly squeezing the stress ball will help gently build the muscles back up. Don't be tempted to over do it though and I know that sounds silly initially but...a little every so often is better than lots in one go.

Well at least no break must feel good to get out of it.

Liz when I was in hossy when I went for physio they had the stress balls with mess over them so when you squeeze you get little bubbles of ball come out the mess.

Have just aquired one at home and makes my hands hurt but has shown me that he FM has affected my hands, right is weaker than left. Hubby hates the way it squeezes out is my new way of winding him up.

McAnne at least you can get to driving now

Dawnie, when I was at uni we had to do some testing on muscle contraction and strength. That was when it became apparent that I had significant weakness when compared to my peers. Less than half the power they had...I couldn't squeeze the same strength with both hands as they could with one. Neuro that examined me a couple of years ago said there was no significant muscle weakness...I couldn't help but wonder who she was comparing me to LOL.
