Gillian Jennifer

Gillian Jennifer Report 19 Jul 2008 20:08

Just had a look at petitions, http://petitions.gov.uk
10,551 people have signed to cut VAT on fruit juice so they can eat healthy, cheaper.
1,035 have signed the my petition to get our kids tested against SADS and prolong their life.
Ironic!!

the trouble is that people sign petitions that affect them.....i'm not saying its right but thats just the way people are..........i never raised money or awareness of meningitis before my daughter had it........didn't mean i didn't care it just wasn't relevant to me at that time,

Thats a little unfair GJ

People do care...but maybe they are a little fed up with it being force fed it all the time so are not answering.

Most people on here who have signed it also read your threads..I understand you can only sign the once cant you ?

Comparing your petition to one regarding orange juice is a bit unfair.

Im sure each and every one of those people care about saving kids lives, but signing that petition doesnt make them think orange juice is more important than your cause.

Its also impossible to sit for hours sifting through the thousands of petitions online to find the hundereds of more worthy petitions to sign than the one they already have done so..

Mildred, poeple do not have to read my threads, so I am not force feeding them information, I am merely making a point, orange juice, cheaper petrol or whatever, cannot in my mind, be more important than a child/young person's life./ I have lost a child to SADS, as you probably know, but although I am left absolutely devestated by this, and I know my life will never be the same again, I am using my grief and sadness, I believe, in a positive way. I hope I have educated lots of people about this silent killer and I also hope that I have saved a few, what with educating people and fund raising. I was merely puting my point across, not everybody's view, but mine, and you are entitled to your opionion, but I do not like being told I am force feeding people, this is a free country, and a website where people can decide for themselves if they click and read my threads, and thankfully many. many have and backed and helped my course, to save others going though what I have, I thank you for your commens XX..

I would question whether fruit juice is that good for kids,it is after all full of fructose [sugar].Far better for them to drink more water, boring I know but its true.

Mildred I think that is harsh.

Gillian in my opinion sometimes people don't answer because they genuinely don't know what to say in the face of such understandable deep grief, or they don't want to even think it could happen to them.
I cannot even begin to comprehend what you must be going through to lose both a son and a grandson to the same disease is awful beyond words.

Thank you Blue eyes, and if people do not want to answer, than that is fine, if they read my threads and understand what I am doing, or at least trying to, that is great, and yes I am left devestated, who would'nt be, but I am trying to put my loss to somebody else's gain, and if I go on, I am not sorry, because I am simply trying to avoid others going through my pain, Bless you XX..

I admire anyone who turns their grief into something constructive.

It would be so easy to sit and let the grief and pain of your losses overwhelm you, but you use it to try and avoid others going through the same thing as you.

I admire your courage................I doubt I could be as strong.

Yes people do not have to read your threads GJ

However because no one answered your thread you posted this

...................
I merely posted a response to your comment giving a possible reason why people may have not added to this thread. It is an opinion which was freely invited the minute you posted your own comments on this thread regarding no one answering..

I personally saw that as a slur on all those who diddnt answer, making us seem uncaring and disinterested.

I also gave a fair response to your comment about the orange juice petition.

Another point I wish to make is..how do we know that some of those who had signed the less important OJ petition havent lost children to SADS or babies to cot death, meningitis, or cancer. How do we know that they havent already signed petitions to help their own causes equally important ?

They may feel they also would like some light relief from their own pain maybe and want to also help less important causes knowing the two things are totally different, and will not mean they care less for their main causes they support.

I'm all for cutting vat on OJ and other healthy foods, to encourage a more affordable healthier diet for the younger generation. doesnt mean I dont care about other more important causes.

And so am I Mildred, I work at supporting people with learning difficulties, and believe you me, my work is a fight for equality and fairness, and yes, I wish healthy foods were cheaper, I was merely making a point, one that is so important to me as SADS is Herediatory, and by all accounts I have lost a Mother, Brother, Uncle, Son and Grandson to this, and I have four other children with a 50-50 chance of having it, a nephew who has had an op, as he is a candidate, as is his Son, I appreciate young people's life's, and I am just putting my point of view across, but I will not get into an argument about this, as to my expense, I know, life is so short, I hope you have a nice night.XX..
