Lard is from pork. Which is why we can't use it at school now as we have a few kiddies who can't eat pork products. |

haven't bought it for years and have ditched the deep fat fryer (hadn't used that for several years either). Both of us have to watch our cholesterol so don't think lard would be a good idea. Always used to make pastry with half lard and half margarine. |

Does anyone eat Lardy cake ?..........I used to work with my cousin,who baked bread/cakes and sold them on a market stall..........people loved the Lardy cake ( which I had never heard of before ).Where does it originate from ? |

Amanda - Lardy cakes are from Wiltshire and you can still buy them in some shops, I make one now and then as some of the shop ones are too dry - not at all healthy but wot the heck. |

I must admit Liz that I have never actually eaten Lardy cake but people certainly couldn't get enough of the ones we made back then. |
