Anne, I too was around when Mary Whitehouse was making her complaints.

she was right then and she has been proved right now.

The film they did of her ... was it last week?.... was an insult to a good woman, who cared.

But Mary Whitehouse is alive and kicking
in my living room most nights of the week.
As for Gordon Ramsay..... I would never watch any of his programmes.... cannot stand the man. It is not his swearing... it is his disgusting high opinion of himself.
how dare he talk to people the way he does... and he passes it on to his students.
I have never believed in teaching by abuse!!

So many times we have sat down to watch a film, and the language has been so bad, we have turned it off. So many people use swear words as adjectives.

I remember Mary Whitehouse, and I think she had a lot of guts.

Barbara Woodhouse was the dog trainer, and she used to make us laugh, especially when she pulled a little dog up on his lead, when he would not behave.

Reading some posts, it is a pity we dont have some Husband Trainers on TV. We have had the rest, children trainers, horse trainers. (he he)

its not so much the times he uses the F word but how,,,,,at other people women included to ridicule them in front of millions of peope what self respecting or respectful of others people would sink so low ,,,who looks the F ,,,him in my books,!!

but hes got talent as a chef,,,,,,

well I hope his children in years on,,dont see any re-runs of his shows I'd be applaude to see my dad treat people like this,,,
we can all use explitic words about something but not with any respect at other people,on that scale,,

What I found more irritating than the actual swearing was the phoney northern accent Gordon adopted to say the F word. He doesn't normally swear in that accent.

I've noticed it seems to be a trend with people from the Midlands downwards to adopt an northern accent when saying words with a U in them. Well, it sounds flippin' ridiculous!

I was around in the Mary Whitehouse days, and she was given a very rough time.

One of the girls in her class told her that she (the teenager) was embarrassed to watch tv with the rest of the family. It was then that Mary decided to complain. Mary was the 'face' of many of us who were very unhappy with the state of TV. She had huge support

As a measure of the vilification of Mary Whtiehouse, there was a series on TV a few years ago (long after she died) called 'The Mary Whtiehouse Show', which could only be shown after the watershed.

As far a Gordon Ramsey is concerned, he says he doesn't swear in front of his children - double standards or what?

The worst part about that programme about Mary Whiitehouse that was on recently was that she was shown about to "do it" with Mr Whitehouse. What a terrible shock that was!

I know what you mean, I think the shows where he goes to America and sorts people out over there was a bit over the top with his language and a bit contrived. I am sure the programme would have had just as many viewers if he had not used one rude word.

The only time I hate to hear bad language is when it is out of the mouths of babes.
