I came home from work and felt really tired and fell asleep on the settee! About 20 mins later a woke up because I thought I couldnt breath, my heart was racing and I felt faint. After that I felt ok.

When I went to bed some hours after the same thing happened and continued happening all night every half hour or so, My mouth was as dry as a bone and I had to get up 3 times for some water. I eventually fell asleep properly at 5am and woke up at 7:30am with the alarm.

I am absolutely cream crackered this morning and I also have a funeral to attend. (wasnt worried about that though, in case you re wondering)

Does anyone have any ideas what it was? Should I go to the doc?

See what you are like after the funeral.if you still have these episodes I think you should see GP.
May sound odd but could be hormonal.

LancsLass

LancsLass Report 4 Jun 2008 09:48

I wouldnt be surprised if it is hormonal.
Im up and down like a yo yo these days and I also get stomach cramps half way through my cycle which I never used to get

However if Karens mum has had something similar I wonder if there is a bug going round.

I was going to go the the doc if it happened again tonight but dont want to waste their time, but I was more worried it was something serious (like a heart problem)

maybe I need a medical

Hi Lancs Lass

Always best to let your GP know what's going on so they can monitor it. Might just be a temporary thing that will ease off in a day or two - but if it persists they can do some blood tests. Could be an over-active thyroid - that can cause the night time pounding/racing heart (have had it myself).

Regards, Athena

Low oxygen in the blood can cause it aswell as you were extra tired may well be the cause,,,,,,,,,but go to Docs and get a simple check .

Hi, could be a lot of things or nothing! If you aren't too keen on seeing your doctor, why not mention it to a pharmacist. If there is any concern you will be advised to see your doctor. Good luck x

Go to your GP.for a Check up just to be on the safe side.but as you are going to a Funeral ( Very Stressful ) It could possibly be a "Panic Attack " It sounds like it.Sasha has them sometimes. Best Wishes.**M**.

Mornin' all - if potassium is low it can produce feelings of lightheadedness, lethargy etc. Have a banana to replace potassium,. If it's happening regularly, I'd say go for a checkup. asap.
Regardless,it's better to have it checked in case it is cardiac.
Another thing which can make one lightheaded - as if you're going to faint, is standing up too quickly after sitting for a prolonged period of time. The seated position can press on an artery in the groin, which effectively shuts off normal flow of blood , reducing the oxygen flow to the brain. Stand up slowly, regardless of your age. This often occurs when 'straining' on the potty as well, or sitting too long at the computer - extra pressure on that artery.
A very frequent occurence in the frail elderly.
If you must stay seated for prolonged time, change your position, lean back once in a while.
Hope everything is OK now.
Hugs
Mary

Hi, I had similar symptoms to you, but not thirst, just really bad exhaustion and feeling hot even when others were cold. After blood tests, I was found to be diabetic! I hadn't had ANY of the typical signs, thirst, frequent weeing etc. Might be a good idea as others have said, to pop along to the GP.

Best wishes

It would be wise to check things out with your GP. Could perhaps be diabetes (I'm Type 2) could be you ain't drinking enuff - quite a common thing with women. If your urine is dark in colour then can mean you dehydrated. You do need to sort it out.

Just come back from the funeral. Everything went ok she was my Aunt. All the family had a good natter about the 'good old days' even though I am the youngest and I dont remember any of the things they were saying about my grandma & grandad . A date has been set for a meal out because we only ever get together at funerals!

No further symptoms to report, no flutters, palpatations or shortness of breath, although did feel a touch lightheaded. I now have a banging headache (not drink related, as I dont). Probably from being tired. Thinking about dehydration as I was very warm last night and I never drink enough.

If it happens again tonight definitely booking an appt at the docs.

Thanks for your advise.

Caz drinking lot of water at night could indicate diabetes!

Ron2

Ron2 Report 4 Jun 2008 20:33

Lancs Lass suggest you try drinking more. My daughter doesn't drink a lot and was out one day in car, had to pull over and summon ambulance - she was losing blood etc turned out she dehydrated she is now drinking more. Same thing happened with a cousin in States she had to be admitted ER and rehydrated - cost her $800!!

If you don't drink enough you will damage your kidneys

If you get a chance to read this book, I highly recommend it "Your body's many cries for water" by F. Batmanghelidj, MD.
It's basically a manual for those who prefer the more natural approach to many conditions. Excellent. Google it (or "Goodsearch" it, and give to charity while you're at it) for more info.
