Can someone help me, my Daughters PC which is connected to the router downstairs with a ethernet cable cannot access websites with a video on..... They connect to the page but wont load up anything leaving a blank screen?? I've downloaded the latest driver for the graphics card, scanned with virus and adaware , also done a defrag, but still the same.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Could you tell me one of the pages she cannot access and I'll backwards diagnose from there.

What does she get when she goes to that url?
Is that the actual page or is it another page through that site?
Has she ever been able to access it with the current hardware setup?
Which operating system and browser is she using?

A black page

That is the actual page

she's never tried before but another website that she has accessed is the cbbc site.

she's using Windows xp and internet explorer.

I've noticed when i get the site up on mine, when i right click on the screen it brings up info about Adobe flash player 9 , i' tried to download it to my daughters pc but it wouldn't download.

Well that's certainly your problem. The official place to download from is:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

When you try to download it do you get a narrow yellow strip towards the top of your window - basically between the actual window and the menu bars?

Anthony

Anthony Report 3 Jun 2008 16:57

Nope nothing, i've seen that before on my PC but not on hers.

Anthony

Anthony Report 3 Jun 2008 16:57

Is there any way I can download it on mine, put it to disc and install it on hers that way?

I'm not sure whether you can with Flash - I think it automatically installs and doesn't permit you to actually download and save the file - if you're there Steve do you know?

i am sure with flash 9 you can only use the "run" command errol

i wonder if the pemmisions are set up wrong on the girls PC ???

if so there may be a fix

Found it!

You can download a standalone installer here:

http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html

Either use the download on that page or follow the link towards the bottom of the page for the Complete Standalone Installer if you want to run downloaded Flash and Shockwave content when you are not surfing the web.

When you click on the download select Save rather than Run and choose somewhere convenient to save the file. Then copy it to a disc or dongle and you will be able to run it on your daughter's computer by double clicking on the file.
