Hi everyone
I have a photo of my son when he was in Year 6, a photo of me, OH and son and family dog which was done in a studio a few years ago and a photo of my horse when we came first in a show class. I've got lots of family photos on the sideboard.

Sue in Somerset

Sue in Somerset Report 30 May 2008 21:04

Looking around our living room we have 3 watercolour paintings with scenes of Indian life. My husband's grandfather was an engineer in India and in the 1920s he commissioned students at the Bombay Art college to do a number of paintings to remind him of his time there. My husband inherited those plus a big painting of the bungalow in India where his mother was born.
So those are treasures.

Then over the mantlepiece is a painting of some mauve poppies I did years ago and my husband wouldn't let me sell that one.

There's a lovely drawing of one of my daughters done by a pavement artist. It belongs to her but she hasn't got space for it yet.

There's an aerial photo of our village which shows an expanse of the Somerset Levels and reminds me how rural it is here.

I've also got a pretty print of an illuminated map of part of Anglesey showing local birds which my sister (who lives near there) gave me.

There are photos of our wedding on the mantlepiece and various pictures of the kids on the piano.

Most of the rest of the paintings in the house are oils I did but we've got a little dormouse photo (used to be in a calendar LOL) on our bedroom wall.

In my lounge.......Photos of my kids, my wedding photo (people ask who it is) !! A handmade slate mirror that my Mum gave me one Christmas. A water-colour painting which I bought.....love it 'cause it has water and trees. Finally, I have a slate wall-hanging that I treasure. A friend gave me after her mother had been ill and died. It reads as follows:

A Gift of Friendship

Friendship is a priceless gift
That cannot be bought or sold
But it's value is far greater
Than a mountain made of gold

For gold is cold and lifeless
It can neither see nor hear
And in time of trouble
It is powerless to cheer

It has no ears to listen
No heart to understand
It cannot bring you comfort
Or reach out a helping hand

So, when you ask God for a gift
Be thankful if He sends
Not diamonds, pearls or riches,
But love of real good friends

In the living room I have a pretend pub sign with a line drawing of my grandad's head and the motto 'All Brains Fully Matured in the Wood' on in (ie he was regularly pickled!! LOL
It was painted by a friend, A Pollard, I believe when he was in te Navy during WWII (he came out of retirement) and has the names of his other 3 drinking buddies on it.
On the mantlepiece there is a lovely very small caricature of my daughters drawn by my youngest's now fiance for mothers day in 2002.
Also have a photo of the girls taken at nursery school and my grand daughter's first school photo - it's difficult to tell her and her mother apart at that age!!
Up the stairs I have framed old song sheets from the turn of the century up until WWII.
At the top of the stairs I have huge 'portrait' photographs, in original frames of 3 of my great grandparents, interspersed with photos of my gran and my other g grandparents.
