I don't know why birds walk that way leanne but I felt the need to say that many years ago I used to have a boyfriend who's head went back and forth as he walked .........always reminded me of a pigeon.........I spotted him recently.......still walks the same.............lol........perhaps he has the answer to you question.................lol

leanne my OH is an ornothologist he believe it may have something to do with the fovea which is at the back of the retina, part of the eye.

i have no idea,
except that i think they are "programmed" (for want of a better word) to fly south, but as you said how do they recognise their own breed when brought up by a different breed? confused,,,,, you will be! ....

Another bird question.....

How does a baby cuckoo reared by parents of a different species know that it has to fly south in the cooler months
AND
Do the said baby cuckoos meet up with others in their area, ...
"Bye Mum, I'm off to find my own kind ".....
or do they just set off for Africa on their own?
