Strange bird related things that've always perplexed me .......

The sky is full of birds. And birds must die sometimes. So how come I've never ever seen a bird drop down dead out of the sky? Has anyone else?

Another bird question.....

How does a baby cuckoo reared by parents of a different species know that it has to fly south in the cooler months
AND
Do the said baby cuckoos meet up with others in their area, ...
"Bye Mum, I'm off to find my own kind ".....
or do they just set off for Africa on their own?

Gwyn

CrunchyNuTTer Report 9 May 2008 23:34

Thats a question and a half Gwyn!

Hope you get an answer to it, lol

i have no idea,
except that i think they are "programmed" (for want of a better word) to fly south, but as you said how do they recognise their own breed when brought up by a different breed? confused,,,,, you will be! ....
lol

leanne my OH is an ornothologist he believe it may have something to do with the fovea which is at the back of the retina, part of the eye.

CrunchyNuTTer Report 9 May 2008 23:36
