Puss, if you really want to know, I have hatched eggs (well, my chickens have) from supermarket eggs. Obviously you need a free range hen with access to a cockerel, and most of our shop eggs are man-free. A hen can retain sperm for upto 12 days, apparently, and will sit on her eggs to incubate them when she thinks she has laid enough. Clever or what! |

Something to be said for buying eggs layed by battery hens, they've never seen a cockerel so they're not likely to hatch. Although that doesn't seem to stop me buying free range organic. |
