We did this at school too (about 40 years ago).

There are a lot 'marvels' that are really attributed to physics, you can probably google them.

I used to go out with a chap who later got into Yogic Flying, now that is rubbish....lol

We used to do the chair trick at school as well - scientific explanation here -

Seen levitation done - and took part - about 30 years ago. We were at a course in an Oxford College. There was a chant, it was very nasty - I didn't like the experience at all. The first couple of times it didn't work, and one lady on the course said that she was a Dr. and it probably wouldn't work with her there. She went out of the room, and it worked. I was quite Church minded at the time, and put a pencilled cross on a piece of paper in my pocket and my fiancee's pocket.
We did it with one particular girl lots of times, getting her higher and higher 'til we were all standing with our arms above our heads. It was a very high old room probably ten foot ceilings. This was the middle of the night, a beautiful fine night. Some of them wanted to do it outside, but we were worried that she would go up out of our reach.
When we stopped doing it the girl took ages to come round, as if she was sort of hypnotised. The lady who was a Dr. came back in and took her pulse etc. and said it had gone very slow, as had her breathing.
A scary experience, and we were not young kids, most of us were well over 30. My fiancee, now husband of 30 years, still says it was a mass hallucination and we never saw it at all.
I am sure it happened though. There were about ten of us in the room. The next day we all laughed, uneasily.

Thank you Ros.

Could I just ask what the lady who was levitated felt ?

My spiritulist Gran said a ouji board was like knocking on the door of the spirit world and allowing access into this without knowing who or indeed what was on the other side.

I still have a million and one questions.

But I wonder if, with Ros's permission. I might come back tomorrow with a refreshed mind ?

Keith, can't remember really, I suppose some other kid showed us then we all had a go. I think its a parlour game. Can't even remember anyone ever giving an explanation to it but I think its science stuff, physics and all, lol.

Yep me too we used to do this at work in the 70's. Used to get a person at the head feet and one either side. If I remember we used to chant something but cannot remember what it was and yes we used to raise people off the ground and they were no lightweights either with just our two index fingers.

Its really weird and would love to know the scientific reason for being able to do this.

Used to play with the ouija board too. Not that its something I feel should not be dabbled in. If you cannot see or touch what you are talking to leave it.
Would scare the pants off me now.

But what made you do this in the first place Hoob ?

Hoobity

Hoobity Report 2 May 2008 23:51

Keith, yes it works. We used to sit a friend on a school chair then clasp our fingers together but with the index fingers pointing out then place these index fingers under the seat of the chair next to the legs, so 4 persons, 1 to each corner of the chair then lift. We could never work out how it worked but we never thought it was magic or anything paranormal. We didn't rub our hands together first or hold them above the seated persons head either.

But how ?

Didn't any of you seek answers ?

Conan

Conan Report 2 May 2008 23:41

I hear what you say Lou

In my early days of working life several of us used to use a Ouija at lunchtime for a bit of fun.

I am perhaps one of the most hard nosed of hard nosed men.

But I shall forever be totally perplexed by what I witnessed in those days.

But did it work Elva ?

~Looby Loo~ Report 2 May 2008 23:19

Talking of Ouija boards I would never touch one again.
The first thing is my colleagues and I were messing around with one and I joked that I didn't have anyone on the 'other side', within a couple of months I lost 2 relatives suddenly and unexpectedly.

Secondly after we started the glass started to go manic spinning around fast on the spot and then at the same time move around the board. It was impossible for anyone to be able to control it. It kept spelling two strange words which didn't make sense we asked was it spelling it correctly and it said yes. Then it spelt a word in english which freaked us out, but one girl just froze. It turned out the weird words were in Norweigen 1 was her father's pet name for her & the other was her name and the other word spelt out was murder. It turned out her father had died in mysterious circumstances aboard a ship.

Hence why I won't touch one again. Lou
