Dear all of you ,
Today when i was so down,could not go to my Dads grave because he is in Durham,and me in Hereford,I wrote my words on this wall.I never in a million years thought anyone would respond to it.I tend to keep people at arms length ,because my friends die or move away from me,like my family did. Today you have changed me.People do need friends ,i wish you all lived next door! God bless you all... Christine

We are almost the same as next door Christine. You know, missing your Dad today especially has shown you a new way to live, don't keep people at arm's length, there is always someone around to keep you company, make you laugh or cry or get annoyed. This board is a lifeline for many people who for whatever reason, can't get out and about as much as they would like or have lost touch with people, or just lost their loved ones. Now you have new friends and 'family' and even if some leave here, others come along to take their place. All part of life's rich pattern, welcome to the new chapter in your life!

we lost our Pops in Dec 1975 just 10 days before his 68th birthday.I remember still that last week leading up to his passing.
A wonderful dad, quiet but firm and oh so proud of his" ole dutch" and his kids all 7 of us,
Mums anniversary is next month,May , and I know after she lost him she just gave up and wanted to be with him. she went 5 years later in 1980
I still have dreams about them both .

Shirley, that was what my Dad used to call my Mum sometimes, he was from Buckinghamshire, my Mum was a Norfolk girl - I don't think it is a Norfolk expression.

My parents were SE Londoners through and through altho Mum was born Hackney her family moved to Charlton when she was very young. Dad was born SE London and his mum was a S Easter too from Deptford. His dad tho was GERMAN and came with his family from Germany in the 1880,s sometime. I havnt found where tho yet.

There are people on here who will always give love and support when it's needed. I have had plenty of both in this last week or so.

They might not live next door, but are here if needed.

Thinking of you and your dad today.

I know the heartache of being unable to get to a loved ones grave or resting place on a special day. So now if that happens I place fresh flowers and a candle by their photo on that day, and spend a little time in the flickering candlelight with my memories.

Dear Kitty, My Dad would be chuffed to bits,(will be chuffed to bits) with a cheeky little grin on his face.
I found the site and have lit a candle for him its beautiful j.m.l ...John Maudling Lowther.
The computers in my bedroom so tonight i will put his candle on the screen and turn the lights out and watch the flame flicker....And tell him about all you kind wonderful people that today have made my heart swell .............Thankyou Christine

When we have been blessed with wonderful mums, dads and others, sadly the price we pay is the pain when we lose them. But that has to be worth the love we had with them and the joy they brought us and still do.

Ive just been to the abbey to see it lit up in my mum and dads names and I said to myself, There you are, what do you think of that? And I could hear them answering me :)

Shirley, I think one of my ggrandfathers worked in London for a while so maybe he picked up the expression there and it passed down the family.
He used to write it in her birthday cards sometimes too.
