Sue, tempting as it is, you won't come off well if you or your hubby thump these brats, however many supporters you have, and if you did, their parents could probably and would probably, take out civil action against you, they wouldn't want their brats to be in the wrong!!!
I still think the Jeyes fluid works, I know it did for the elderly lady near me who used to get lots of youngsters drinking and smoking and making a lot of noise under the stairway to her flat. They don't congregate there anymore cos of the smell,she renews the stuff every now and then.
There is something the police can do if lots of people congregate, they can make a Dispersal Notice I think it is called. The people are warned and a notice put up, and then if there is a report of those prewarned, gathering again the police can come along and move them off, and if they gather again more than one or two, they can be arrested. Might be worth asking about in any area where there is trouble.
It is typical of that meeting that parents don't want to bother or admit their kids are a problem so they won't make any effort to improve matters or get things organised for the kids. As long as they are not disturbing the parents at home, many couldn't give a fig about where they are or what mischief they are up to. A sad reflection of the times.

The connection I have with the police is I am on a policing panel.

I had a lot of contact with our community officer.

They decided to hold a meeting over 3 hours in our village hall to discuss opening a youth club with computers and organised games/events for the kids.

Who turned up? Hubby and me, not one other parent or yob attended. As our kids don't even live here we only had an interest in giving them something else to do other than vandalise!

So after that non event I call in everything I witness as requested.

My view now is to thump them, go to court and take my chances, I'm sure the court would be packed with supporters. Problem with that is my husband's employers would probably take a very dim view as he is a security guard.

we have trouble with yoiths where i live.
my next door neighbour has two autistic children and they have some play equipement to help with their developement.
what they do is come in through my garden because she has a high fence that they cant get over to go over my low fence into her garden.
the yobs have put cigarette burns through the trampoline, puuled the concreted slide out of the ground, they shout and swear at her, they have exposed themselves to her.
she ended up having a nrevous breakdown.
i tried to block the entrance to my garden which worked for a few weeks, then caught them again when they had pulled down all the stuff i had blocked the entrance with and were at the bottom of my garden.
i asked them what they were doing and they swore and ran off. i put all the stuff back and up until now it has been quiet again.
you can see them stood behind the hegde under the light that is just outside our ajoining gardens, smoking and drinking.
i have rung the police several times, sometimes they come most times they dont.
we have been told to ring up at the least little thing to get it logged.
i get so fed up at all the glass smashed on the path from their vodka bottles and lambrini bottles.
we are talking about 13/14/15ish year old here.
my son had his lights pinched from his garden (he lives opposite us) another neighbour had his front room window put through on christmas day because one of the lads didnt like him - HE DOESNT EVEN KNOW HIM!
our police station is at the bottom of the road, you can see it from my house, but it only opens between 9am and 5pm.
we live on an estate that is bigger than the next town!
our calls go to nothallerton which are answered promptly but them we have to wait a long time (10mins last time) for our town station to answer.
i realy dont know what the answer is, i dispare sometimes.

im suprised the police turned up for such a minor (but annoying) offence !
they certainly wouldnt here !
i hope it wasnt because you have some connection to them because that doesnt seem fair no matter how annoying the incident was for you
im not sure about putting lard etc on the wall of a property thats not yours, i think you could get into trouble yourself for that

Wonder what the stuff is that they use to catch a thief? It only shows up when you wash your hands. Would be interesting when Mom washed their jeans and they come out red!

Glad your hubby will know what he is doing then, being in the job he is in. Had to laugh at the image of you going after them with your crutch Sue lol

It is only when it hits the parent's pockets that it seems to come home to them what little brats they have reared, and that doesn't happen often as the courts are far too soft with the kids.

Hubby will be careful! He is a security guard and although slight in build can look really menacing. Mind you my hatchet face and walking crutch must have seemed quite menacing tonight!

Lard would be applied in the dead of night!

On my next police panel form, (I have only just completed and posted the latest one, drat!) I will add tonights debacle.

Police always turn up, albeit slowly, they were attending a road traffic accident when my call went in. I will probably get a follow up call tomorrow with my views on response time etc., also my CPSO will phone or call in sometime this week I expect.

If only these idiots or their parents were punished in some way perhaps vandalism would decrease.

I think it is so awful that these kids behave the way they do. We used to have lots near my house causing trouble but luckily here where I am now, it isn't so bad. I have had to report youngsters setting fire, or trying to, a bale of hay in the field out the back but except for o.h. getting broken into before I came to live here so occupying the house when he is at work, it is quieter.
I do hope your husband will be careful tho, as there have been many tragedies where the youngsters square up to an adult chasing them or telling them off and use knives or maybe the bits of slate etc and your husband could be injured.
Also be careful with the lard, it is a good idea but if an ordinary passer by got lard on their clothes you could be in trouble for it.
One tip the police give out and I have mentioned before, is putting strong smelling Jeyes fluid around so the kids go away, they don't like hanging round near the smell. It is dearer than lard but you could pour that at the base of the wall and it might move them on else where.

your lucky police turned up

you can ring them where i live and you are put in a queue for priority criminal damage or burglary is usually a 2 or 3 day wait for a visit ,

when my garage was broken into they came round 2 days after i reported it gave me a crime no and left saying you may as well claim on your insurance as we won't find them, the reason kids do as they like is because there is no comeback .

I have to say you are incredibly fortunate that the police actually did anything.

*puts lard on the shopping list*

I hope it works as well for you as it did for me......the youths will wander off and be " humpty dumptys" on someone elses wall..........spread the word and the lard...........lol

My daughter used to attract all the local yobs , who would then sit on my wall and pull the leaves off my precious shrubs.I got fed up with it and marched out , lard in hand and coated the wall..........lol.....it stays there for ages.

Sue........may I make a suggestion ?. If youths are sitting on the wall opposite and that house is unoccupied , smear lard on the wall....a cheap deterrent.......they won't like their "nice"clothes getting lardy and hopefully won't realise it was you that did it.

I would have done the same, son shot neighbours garage door with an air gun by accident when he was about 14 he was made to pay for the repairs and grovel. He gave the airgun back to his friend and had severe home punishment for a month.
