There are some great items mentioned here and it's lovely to see that it's not only expensive things which are cherished in a home.
I must check the date on a family bible. I think it must be from 1800s.
You've made me realise that I've got older items too.
I forgot that we have a few bits of fossils from a local 'fossil foray' which grandson went on last week.....No special ones, just bits of belemites mostly.

a book that was printed i think in 1680... mum works in a solicitors and she has pilfered it for a bit so that i can have a look, it is incredible.

I have a 1953 bottle of port wine given to me by a friend, it's ..the year I was born..Every year I threaten to drink it...but do not have the courage...

Also a brooch....that the woman used on their necks. You know those long necked frilly tops that close at the neck..

I have one which is a simple black slide looking thing with a catch that is ( I am told is called Chinese laquer, but have no idea) used at the base of the neck (frill)

It dates back to the 1700's or so I am told.

I am not too sure of the oldest thing off hand.
I do have my Grandfathers wedding ring ( on my finger now) they married in 1910 and my Gran said they got it from the pawn shop so I don't know how old it is. I did have Grandads oiginal birth cert 1890 but gave it to my brother ( daft thing to do I know) .
Have their original marriage cert 1910 (these are my Dads mum and dad)and my mums bapt 1909 .
I have an old book ( Uncle Remus) printed in 1883.
Oh and most of the furniture in my front room and my bedroom is from the 1930's Art Deco Grandfather clock and a welsh dresser were my Grans a sideboard was the MIL .

Some of the others beat me to it with fossils. When I was in England I bought an ammonite which the label says is 165million yrs old. I also have some NZ belemnites which are about the same age. As for more 'recent' things, I have my gt grandmothers watch with an enamelled picture on one side. She brought it out from England in 1864. Also a child's book which was given to a gt aunt in 1878 I think.

My grt grt grandafather's discharge paper 1878, his marriage cert 1865.
Grt grandfather's Bapt in1874 his marriage in1894, along with his indenture appenticeship for painting 1892.
He was a talented sign writer he was painting the sign for Burns Cottage when he was dying in bed they took the sign around for him to finish. When he had finished his wife threw out his brushes. My father has beautiful handwriting so he got that from his grandfather.

That penny dated 1797 would be George III.
According to my coin book a *1797* "Cartwheel", 10 laurel leaves and 1797 11 laurel leaves are worth £15 in F condition £30 VF & £125 VF. Thats Coin Year Book 2002. 8,601,600 were issued between the pair of them.

I have one very small piece of Roman tile which was on the rubbish pile at a dig where I was once a volunteer. It's only a little cube but I like the idea someone made it nearly 2000 years ago.

My husband's family were posher than mine so we have a few bits and pieces which must be Victorian I think.

His grandfather was in India as an engineer in the late 19th and early 20th century and we've some paintings this man commissioned students at the Bombay Art School to paint. They are lovely scenes of Indian life from about 1910.

I have a leather-bound book - a small one - Shakespeare's sonnets - it's over a hundred years old. Also a small set of Shakespears plays in a little leather case - about 4" X 2" - over 100 years old, a filligree silver photograph frame - Victorian, no idea of the real age of it

I have a Blessings box that was used by my mother,
my gran before her and her mum before her. Possibly by her mum too. I have no Idea how old it is but it is very old it could have been in the family for generations.

I have a bedroom suite of a wardrobe, washstand and dressing table with mirrors on top. They were delivered to a family called Greenberry in 1906 - there is still the pencil writing inside the wardrobe. It belonged to my grandmother who must have either been given it or it was got second hand.

Of a more personal nature the same grandmother's wedding ring - they got married in 1924. 24ct gold I used to wear it until my fingers expanded lol. It is kept in my personal oldest thing and thats my Pinky and Perky mug from when I was a child. lol

Got some old coins as well which are Victorian and who ever before her cannot remember off hand and I am not going to haul myself up stairs and down to find them. lol

I have an Edwardian writing desk which was given to my Grandfather on his ordination in (I think) 1923. I also have a pair of prints given as a wedding present to my Grandparents in 1928.

I also have a photo from around 1870.

OH has got a box of old coins, which includes a Georgian penny dated 1797. It's huge and weighs a ton!

I've got a lovely little photo in a case from about 1860 which was featured in YFT magazine a while ago. Think it is of my gt gt grandmother.
