If that had happened to any of mine I would have taken them out and gone elsewhere. That's awful!

My daughter jumped in the deep end for the first time on Thursday without holding on to a pole. But instead of being pleased about it she said it wasn't an achievement it was nothing, to which my reply was 'oh yes it is something. It matters to me and your dad. We are so proud of you'.

She told me that when she told the other children in her group they replied that it was nothing as they could already do it. So my daughter thought that it was nothing. Since thursday both me, OH and her Nana have praised her for overcoming her fear of jumping in the deep end because it had been a big deal to her. I think she's got the message now. xx

What about getting him to join the local swimming club.

Did this with my two and they were taught to swim correctly. They did not want to swim competively but they had a very good start.

Shove her in the Deep End and hold her down.Children should be encouraged to swim all the time, however long it takes. If she does things like that she is totally irresponsable and should not be allowed to hold that position,Boss or Not.Perhaps she should be Forced to play in a "Water Polo" team and kept in the Deep End.Then she will really learn how to give and accept encouragement.**M**.

What a rotten woman,

He done well love him, and deserves a medal.

We never learned to swim, and I still cant, so I admire anyone who can.

The reason we did not learn, was I was at school during the war, and can you imagine trying to get kids out of the pool and dressed when an air raid started.

I tried many times later on, but was always frightened of the water.

SD, I had a similar experience at our outdoor pool when the school took us to learn to swim. We were told to stand in a circle in the water and hold hands and the alternate people lay back and kick their legs. My 'pals' either side thought it would be funny to let go of me and that was my confidence gone, I hadn't been feeling great about it in the first place. My parents weren't the kind to take us to a pool so was my first visit and I was petrified. Have never mastered swimming but made darn sure my son could do it, he was learning at two and loves swimming, he always had good kind teachers.

What a terrible story, this does not help a child's confidence.
When I was a wee kiddy (a long time ago) I was sent for swimming lesoons at a beach pool. I was so frightened of the water and the teacher put her foot on my head and held me under. I cried all the way home and my Dad was beside himself.
Consequently I am no great swimmer and hate to have my face in water.
This teacher has made a mistake herself and is taking it out on your son. How rude is she, someone needs to report her.

How awful, poor lad. Can you not accidentally nudge that evil b***h so she falls in the pool. That is no way to treat a child who is trying his best.
Wish him luck from me to do really well and show the old bat he can do even better than the bronze standard.

Hi Penny, how could she do that it is cruel, if she made a mistake by not crossing his name off, she should own up to her incompetence and let him keep it, it makes you mad, feel like getting her by the scruff of the neck and throwing her in, i know thats the wrong attitude to take, children have feelings.

When I was at school (many eons ago) lol was chosen to swim in the relay race (because I could manage to swim one length).

Well my turn came and *jump* into the deep end and disappeared, when I eventually came up choking and coughing for air everybody else was half way up the pool so there was me drowning but made an effort to swim the length, much to the amusement and laughter of the whole school. I have not forgotten it.

So anybody who can swim and underwater to me is a real hero, so there! lol

Kitty, like you, I am terrified of the water.

How is she a teacher when she is such a cruel person?
She should be teaching the kids how to be nice to other people, not how how to upset them.
CRUELLA should be her name as from now.
Your poor son. Hope he get his bronze and better soon.
He did better than I ever did at school.

Good luck to him

Hi Penny,

Well I think that teacher was very unkind. Swimming takes lots of strength, stamina and courage to do and anyone who can swim a set distance or do a specific water based activity deserves a reward.

I am a swimmer (and have been since the age of 6 despite my disability). Back in the early 90's I decided I wanted to do do a spondored swim to raise money for Gt Ormond Street Hospital. It was not an organised event with others, it was just something I wanted to do.

I managed to swim a mile (64 lengths of a regular pool). I was very proud of my efforts and brought myself a small trophy and had the distance, year and and my name engraved on it to remember the occasion.

Your son deserves this too.

Well done young man, I am sure you will continue to make great achievements in your sport.

I wouldn't pay her any more money.............just let your husband take him and give him a trophy when he reaches a target you set him.

She sounds a complete bully to me.
