Some of you may know that my Dad died Sunday night/Monday morning. Now I do not want this to be a sad thread please, but I do need your help. We have already chosen the music for dad when he enters the crem but still have not made up our minds about the music as we leave. My Dad was a wonderful father to his 2 natural children and his 5 step-children. We all knew him as Dad and there was no difference. So we need a song to honour him as the best father. Can anyone suggest a great song about Dad's that might be suitable. As I cannot think of anything at the moment.

Many thanks Lainey x

Hi Lainey

How about Oh my Pappa it was played by Eddie Calvert on his golden trumpet in a film, sorry can't remember name. I also think that Jimmy Young made a recording of it when words were added. Long time ago but maybe if you google.

PS We used it when my dad died in 1981.

((((HUGS)))) and XXX for you all.

Lainey,

So sorry to hear of your loss, but pleased that you want to commeorate your Dad.

How about choosing something from the music he enjoyed or the soundtrack or theme from one of his favouriite films, or perhaps something connected with his occupation ie military or colliery bands...just have a think and whatever you decide I am sure he will be pleased with. Take Care

AT a friends funeral last April they had the service in church then went to the crem one of the songs, the actual vocals was "He was so Beautiful".

Thanks everyone. All lovely suggestions that I will put to my brothers and sisters. As Colin says we want to commemorate him because he was our hero. Not everyone can be a father to another man's children but he did it better than the natural father's. It would be nice to acknowledge that in some way.

I am so very sorry to hear of your sad loss.................Dad's are so precious aren't they.

We played tunes and songs that Dad had always sung and loved.

He was always singing............so we had plenty to choose from.

Just found lyrics re "O mein Papa" didn't realise Eddie Calvert was born in Preston Lancashire

Although Eddie Calvert's was an instrumental version,
I have included the full lyrics below on request

Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so good
No one could be, so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my pa-pa, he always understood.

Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he'd change my tears to laughter

Oh, my pa-pa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown so funny in his way
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today
