Hi Dave, a sad time, I hadn't realised you hadn't already gone through this.
It might be worth you writing her a little note to say that you had always hoped you might sort things out and be a couple again, but that if she is really sure she wants to have things finalised, then you will co operate with everything and make it as painless as possible for you both. Obviously don't promise anything or mention anything that could be held against you later. Just finish by saying you will always be there for her and hope you can stay friendly.
Good luck, mate, what is done is done, you can't go back however much you wish it, so stand tall, and look the future in the eye.

you helped me when i was in the same situation as you and marilyn
we talked on here with others too
and i have never forgotton that,
i too secretly hoped you would get back together,
i could tell how yu felt for her, and im sure deep down she still feels same for you,
