Remember when singles cost 6/8d?

My first ever single was going to be Lulu singing "Shout" but mum "suggested" that my (newspaper round) money would be wasted on that and "suggested" I buy Louis Armstrong singing "what a wonderful world". Mum's suggestions were orders in disguise so off I went and dutifully bought Louis. Which only she ever played.

Anyone else remember their first ever purchase?

Apart from Donny Osmond I grew up listening to my sisters music and she is 12 years older than me.....so one of my first loves was and still is Otis Redding.

Oh Jess Conrad.. :-)
I remember him playing football for an all-stars side at High Wycombe and I managed to get my arm through the crowd and TOUCH him *swoons*.
I swore never to wash my hand again but my mother soon sorted that lol.
I also loved Billy Fury.
