Hiya's,
i know there's some of us in receipt of incapacity benefit or knows family members which are, just to let you know that when you see the doctor to be assessed, he's from an agency that can only pass so many of the people he's seeing the rest even if they are blind, seriously ill are being denied this benefit because of the gov. shape-up on this benefit...
i'm annoyed that real indaviduals that really need it are being treated this way and the appeals system also means they are left with little or no money...
i've read this petition and feel it might help those needing this benefit and is fairer as that way only those that need it get it...
I hope you feel the same as me and can help, thankyou for reading all this....sorry for ranting...

Kaz am on it and hate the medicals even though I have nothing to hide I have to travel 8 miles to nearest medical centre is going to be even harder to do it next time round

i know dawn, my hubby was on it untill last week, he's been ill for just over 5 years with severe depression, on meds and he has a degeneritive back condition he's also completly blind in his left eye, he had a medical assessment last month and then last week he got several letters saying he was fit for work and benefit stopped in the letters it stated he had no problems no mental problems and he can see with both eyes?????......
he has no money coming in now and has to wait for the appeal which they said can take up to 6 months...

Kaz. I had personal experience of having to go through the appeals procedure when I was deemed fit for work in the eyes of the government, whilst still attending the hospital, and undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Yet all the local junkies and alccys get extra money every week. Where is the justice in that?
My appeal took 6mths, but whilst awaiting for it, I was entitled to claim Income Support, as I refused to claim Jobseekers Allowance like they wanted me to. I did win my appeal, with help from my local Welfare Rights Office.

I now get letters telling me they want info about the part-time job I have, but thet know I don't work, as they have me on computer as long term sick.

Where's the brain in the system?

i'm still waiting for my letter from the hospital admitting negligance, should of received that by now they said when i phoned them wednesday...yer righto i'm thinking...any excuse...eh, bet their quickly typing something up and i'll receive that instead...lol

I got call from them Wednesday, and am waiting for a letter with their explanation of things. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, I am going to contact a lawyer, and my MSP.

Fight the b.....ds all the way for what you OH is entitled to. Nobody tells you, but you just have to find out for yourself, Do they expect him to live on fresh air.

My son is on it ..... he almost died through medical misdiagnosis and neglect.

He is almost due for a call up.

He is NOT ABLE to so a job and this is so obvious.
If they catch him in the morning early... he will be quite able.
And this man has worked since he was 12.....

The sad thing about incapacity benefit is that it is being paid to hundreds of thousands of perfectly able people who are, quite frankly stealing from those of us who pay our inflated taxes. This is why the govt have to change the way it works, it is simply costing us far too much.

What is so very wrong is that those who appear to be deserving get a bad deal, whilst those who know how to play the system benefit.

I have observed the "incapacitated" visiting our local surgery. It is surprising how many develop a severe limp and bent back when they go in and suddenly can walk upright with a sprightly step and light a ciggy as soon as they come out.

i have just been accepted for incapacity benefit and will sign the petition.
i have worked all my life and feel as though i have lost all my dignity by having to have benefits.

i think its an outrage that people are being treated like this.
my son is only 31 and has been receiving incapacity for 6 yrs now as he suffers with narcolepsy.
before he diagnosed he held a fantastic job earning £40 and hour
it makes me so angry to think that the so called do gooders tyhink that my son and many other ppl would give up fantastic wages for a measley 72 quid a week.

peter you are right, so many seem to know how to play the system and thats why the govenment wants/has to reform it, but its gonna cost those that are genually really ill and unable to work... somethings got to be done maybe letting your specialist be the one to diagnose fitness as they know what your capable of doing and not able to do...is one way to catch out cheats...
all i know its doing me head in.....
i've seen another saying that the payments for D.L.A. will be a sliding one instead of fixed amount...hope this is'nt true, people will most defo be worse off....

Sliding scale thats good aint it so if you can wipe your own backside but not walk you will get less than someone who cant wipe their backside but can go out and about ok.

Sorry will get off my soapbox cos I will could go on and on about benefits and who gets them and who doesnt.

I would challenge Gordon Brown to live a week with my pain and problems and then ask him how they can say I dont need help??

i meant to add earlier my hubby has always got over the 15 points, he got 0 points and where it had ..."we have ticked the boxes to show you," there all empty, when he spoke to the lady about that, she said, "they should be ticked can you send us the copy", so 1 copy sent...
sorry it takes me long time to reply, i've 1 hand that works and it gets a bit stiff....lol..thats another prob i've got thanks to our nhs...lol.

Haven't read full thread. But wanted to say that I don't know if this is actually the case as the doctor who does the medical only gives their view on the person and what they observe, they can make a recommendation but it is up to the person at the benefits agency that handles the individuals file to make the decision based on the info they have. I can see that there may be a quota that the benefits decision maker might have but certainly not the doctor themselves.

What annoys me even more is anyone on incapacity benefit has to pay for their prescriptions!
How ludicrous is that? They are unable to work because they are ill but they still have to pay for their medication.

Why shouldn't they pay for prescriptions? The rest of us have to. This again highlights the problem with the benefits system.

I have been on I.B. for two years and am dependent on medication. The only money I have coming in is I.B..... anyone claiming JSA is entitled to free prescriptions etc... hardly fair when you are ill and need medication.

That report has me utterly disgusted. It's obviously not the doctor but whoever is messing with their reports that is at fault.

The computer based one was very flawed I thought as it seemed to be so rigid. That said, I think the doctor that I saw was very good. It also went in my favour that we had a bomb alert during it and she got to see for herself how crap my walking was and how much it took out of me.

I didn't have enough NI contributions of the right kind so couldn't get IB. Instead I get Income support and it will be reassessed a year after it was first granted. In other words I'll have to jump through the hoops again next october too.
