Hiya I expect I am too late, but I made a table cloth for my table -as it is rather a large one like yours with white lining fabric - it was satiny looking and I edged it with lace. Then I used a smaller table cloth on top at an angle (if you know what I mean) on top of that. It looked really effective and by the time I had place mats and cutlery etc on - it looked quite stunning and friends commented on it too.

As Teresa has said you will be amazed at what you can find in charity shops too. My sister has furnished out her daughter's flat wonderfully with curtains and nets - the nets I was quite envious of lol but unfortunately they were no long enough! lol.

Best of luck and I hope you are successful.

Wendy....the table top is 200cm x 85cm but it will need to dangle over the sides

Sally....yes, I usually get mine from Sainsburys but I got it from Asda this year so that could explain things

Sorry Jeanette.....just seen your additional post......

I think it depends on where you buy them......I have got them from Tescos or Sainsburys and they have different sizes.......and I am not good with metric.........even when I do use them on the diagonal on top of the sheets I leave the white sheet showing.......but perhaps they are making them smaller as well.......

The charity shops sound good, but ours seem to be full of clothes, books and china.....

....so this direct linen website is the one for me......x

Rosalind.......thanks for the tip.....and thanks for the thread Jeanette......what a help.....that direct linen has a simple guide to measure exactly what you need.....in inches, and centimeters.......and has all shapes and sizes......so I will buy one from there......but Sunday, when the table is out to its full length......it is back to the sheets and paper tablecloths.....

thank you ladies.....great help.....x

That's another thing Sally....I always buy those paper cloths at Christmas and they've always fitted my table, but the one I bought this year didn't. Wonder if it was a different make?

I was folding up my threadbare tablecover and thinking the same thing Jeanette........I usually use it under a big lace tablecover.....but if the leaves are put in then I use one or two white sheets with coloured paper tablecloths (from a supermarket) in a diamond pattern over the top and when the table is laid it looks lovely.....

I usually use a couple of the light gold coloured ones I buy at Tescos, then you would not know that there was a sheet underneath.......I hope everything goes well for your meal.....

I picked up an amazing old lacy cloth from a charity shop - I hurl that over a plain dark cloth - looks lovely. So look out for one of those and buy a single sheet in a darker colour to co-ordinate with the room.

Jeanette.... I adore Charity shops.

I am always amazed at the things people throw away.... until I look about me and realise that I SHOULD THROW AWAY!!

Hi Jeanette
Try googling direct linen, all their cloths are made to order so you can get whatever size you want. I recently bought one from here, very pleased with quality and price. delivery was fairly quick too.

Indeed it is Deanna, and I'm really looking forward to poisoning......errrr I mean treating them to a bit of my home cooking! lol ;-)))))

You've all given me such alot of fantastic ideas. And I feel like I'm really missing a treat by not visiting charity shops

Jeanette.... no joke here.... but couldn't you put a nice white sheet on the table... and ask your neighbour to lend you two small coloured clothes?

You could put them over the top points to each end of the table and if possible touching in the middle.

By the time you put your decorations and serving dishes down.... it is going to look beautiful.

Have a wonderful evening, and remember the important thing is the company...
