Now I know I am only 41 (well will be in a couple of weeks) so early for menopause but is it common for periods to just get further apart without any other symptons of menopause. |

could well be I suppose - you usually finish early if you started late. I had nearly left school when I started and therefore finished at 50!! |

If you wanted to be sure, a blood test can determine if you are in the pre-menopausal stages as it measures the various hormone levels etc. |

Mine stopped completely when I was about 41. It took me several months to notice though! (Never had particularly heavy periods anyway.) |

Did your mother have an early menopause? Mine did and both my sister and myself had early ones too. |

Dawnie, for years I had a regular 30 day cycle which shortened over a number of years to 25 days. |

I think you should get your hormone level checked, but it might easily be the start of the menopause. |

Hi Dawnie... I started my periods at 10, I'll be 54 in June, and still having them (sticks tongue out at Sue M, lol)... seem to be every 6 weeks since last summer, and the odd one is seeming to be much lighter, the others I daren't go out the door!!. But I have had about 9 years of very heavy periods, sweats, anxiety attacks, mood swings, etc. My GP in Gloucester even told me that my joint pains were down to the menopause, so never investigated. |

Oh no, Daff, don't tell us this pre-menopausal thingy can last 10 years or so? Mine are horrendous - feels like I'm haemorrhaging every couple of weeks. If I've got to go through this for another 10 years I'll...I'll...have to go and get that thermal ablation done that SueM had (whatever that is - will have to look it up!). Anything to make it all stop! |
