I was worried about people doing themselves an injury by keeping everything crossed for a whole week LOL.

I guess it's more hopeful than it was last week, but it's also cautious. I'm not going to plan on it, I think I'll carry on for now as if there was no flat.

I'm packing things up to go in storage in case I end up on my mum and dad's sofa. I just packed up my CDs and DVD's and am now worried about whether the box is too heavy as I can't lift it...but then I'm weak PML.

CAn imagine how stressful this is for you Liz, another week to wait and then you don't know if the keys will go in. Hope no emergencies come ahead of you, your need is great tho and it does sound hopeful. Can't promise to keep everything crossed till then but will do it mentally for you.
Positive thoughts,
Lizxx

She phoned me back about half an hour ago, after I called and left a message. The keys haven't come in yet. She said that with the points that I've got and the situation that I'm in, it's highly likely that they'll be prepared to make me an offer of the flat, but they can't say for definite in case an emergency comes in before then. But with my disability making me a priority and the fact that I will be homeless, she can't see it happening that I'll miss out to someone else. She said to give her a call next Tuesday when the keys will hopefully be in and they'll have a better idea of the time scale involved because it could be as long as 4 weeks before it's ready to be let. Which would give me a week on mum and dad's sofa, unless they hold off moving for that week or partially move or whatever.

I suspect there will be a new kitchen going in as they're working their way around the entire council stock. And they may need to do the bathroom depending on how it was for the last tenant.

I'm feeling more positive but still pretty much up in the air. She as good as said it was mine, but didn't actually say that and it's the latter point that has me still in a spin.

When I was talking to her yesterday, she said she remembered a time when you could go down the housing office and ask for a council property and be given keys that day, now there are around 1200 waiting to be housed.

Maddie, I am on other lists too and also with a local housing association, the big concern for me though is that in the 6 months+ since my home assessment (for disability etc) that I've been on the list, THIS is the only ground floor flat that has come up. And naturally I didn't want to wait another 6 months or more. I thought I might have to wait for the guy who lives across the hallway from my friend to pop off. He's 83 and I joked about my mate giving him a scare on Halloween, it was only in jest I must add though.

Hi Liz, well I guess you are still in a stew then, do hope the keys go in soon and the place doesn't need too much work. In the 70s I was lucky enough to get a brand new council flat and lived there for about 2 or 3 years, no more, and then applied for and got a two bedroomed flat, also brand new, in a nearby area. I left my first flat immaculate, with a message for the next tenant that I had practically brand new carpets and vinolay etc if he/she was interested- they didn't fit the new flat cos it was bigger. It could have been moved into that day if someone had wanted.
I didn't hear for six weeks when a new tenant was offered the flat and was glad to buy the things from me, but why on earth it stood empty that long when it needed nothing doing, was crazy. The same thing happened with the other flat when I left there to go to my own property I had bought, again it was clean enough to move straight into, only a couple of years old, but took nearly six weeks for our council to arrange a new tenant.
Maybe you will be lucky and it will be available and ready at the right time, but at least the woman is totally aware of your situation now so might help everything along a bit.
Good luck,
Lizx

:-)

Hi guys and girls, am touched that you were all thinking of me.

The woman from the homeless support was really nice and helpful. She told me that I probably had enough points to get me at the top of the list, but if not then she would be able to state my case and that may help. I've not yet classed myself as homeless but she's aware of the situation now so if it comes to that we'll be able to move quickly. She said the keys were due in for the flat today and when they came in she would be able to sneak preview the list. She was going to ring me this afternoon but I didn't hear from her so I suspect that she either got busy with something else or the keys didn't turn up. I'll give her until mid-afternoon tomorrow and if I don't hear then I'll call her.

Went to look at some storage units just in case. Some of them are bigger than the rooms in halls of residence...no window though so can't sleep in them LMAO.

She said that even when the keys come in it could be weeks before it's ready for someone else depending on the state it's in.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Liz (((((hugs))))))
