Isn't it lovely to have a national costume ...... in answer to your question, I would go along with what your daughter feels like......if she thinks she will look a dweeb, then let her dress as she wishes......you may find after all that she wished she had worn the national dress......decisions, decisions......lol

May I say as an English woman (sorry to swear) LOL but with Welsh ancestors (I am half Welsh) would love the English to have a national day(I know St. Georges) - but are we supposed to all dress up as knights or dragons - as far as I am aware we have no National costume which I think is a crying shame. (Of course I could be very ignorant, so if someone knows different would love to hear).

I am glad you still hold on to that tradition and long may it last.

I still have mine but it fits my 11 year old granddaughter now. They have an international day at school once a year and as there are so many ethnic backgrounds, it's a wonderful day, they all bring a main dish and/or a sweet, traditional from their culture. Our miniMary brings a large plate of Welsh cakes and leek and potato soup, then eats the Indian and Jamaican food!!!! The last day I could not believe the quantity of food available and the variety.

I have Welsh hats for all 3 granddaughters (believe it or not, I had them ,in Canada, from Freecycle!!) but the younger 2 have no costume.

Iechyd da!!
Here's to dewi Sant.

I think 8 is ok to wear welsh costume, but perhaps girls grow up quicker than this nowadays. Am sitting in here and on the wall in front of me is a photo of my daughter aged about 5 dressed in welsh costume holding a large bunch of daffodils, she looks lovely.
