How lovely that your Dad was so pleased with his gift, and now you have more to add to it too.
I should get some stuff down in writing, only my son and he isn't that interested at the mo, but in time he might be and I might even have grandchildren who eventually would like to know more about the family.

I would like to write one not as a gift for any particular person but so that my research will be around for people to understand afte I have gone. AS it is in a family tree style I dont think anybody is interested but if I could produce some form of a book for them to understand then they may contunue with it and cherish it.

Little Lost
I typed up in old english text myself adding birth, marriage, and death certs and photo's along with news paper clippings and other things i had come across along the way, and didnt take very long once i got started.

I got home last night to receive a package with more info on grandads side of the family, and have just found more added info this morning so have mailed the person to ask permission if i may use for my tree, and if i can add this to dads book

did you actually type up the text first yourself or have you been using family tree maker? I ask as I have considered doing a book printed from FTM but so far I havent actually found a way of making it look like a book. All I seem to find is like family tree charts.

I am sure it makes a lovely unique pressie for anybody to treasure.

I'm sure your Dad will read and re read his book so many times.

Well the book was handed over yesterday and dad seemed rather pleased with it until he got to grandads section (he passed away last March, dad's lost without him) and then we had the tears, dad had no idea that i had managed to find any info on him as he came from Scotland, but i could not of done this without the help of many people on GR so thank you to you all.
He is still going on about his book this morning and has told my mum that its his history and no-one is to touch without asking first (bless him)

Think i got his present right this year.

Well have finally finished book, all printed and put together, have just through it one last time to check all is done and no mistakes, so shall wrap it up in the morning and am then spending the day with my dad.
I do hope his going to like it.

Don't forget to take a photo of your Dad when you pass it to him on his birthday,and leave a space for the photo to go in the book.

Spent the day with nan digging out all the old photos have some great ones of him as a baby right up to his wedding day wonderful to put in the book and best of all he doesnt even know that nan has these pictures as they had to leave in a rush from where they lived when he was young.

What a lovely gift. I'm sure he'll be chuffed to bits xx

Well i have now finished the book and have just got to print it all of and place all the photos in the spaces.
I just hope that i havent missed anything or made any mistakes (shall double check it all again tomorrow) then put it together in the binder that ive got for it all.
