	morning Julie... I'm not sure, either... I've just used the default settings and hoped for the best, until I've got to grips with the programme, lol. Not very helpful, sorry :~(( Love Daff xxx

	LOL Daff No thats ok...It's set at 150 & the one im trying to scan is oblong in shape so have a few problems with it lol Julie xx

	My scanner (HP F380) is set at 200ppi for pics and 300ppi for colour docs.
	Researching: Evans, Radnorshire, Herefordshire,Cheshire. Jones, Breconshire. Lewis, Herefordshire.

	That's the same printer as mine... so that must be what mine is set as! It seems to work pretty well most of the time.. but I have another scanner as well, andI just shove anything that is being a bit awkward into that, and it is usually ok (the other is not a printer, just a scanner but does negatives and slides as well) Love Daff xxx

	Julie, the default settings should be ok for most scans. Do you have a problem scanning a particular document ?

	A Note on Resolution: The vast majority of scanning projects require resolutions lower than 300 dpi. For example, scanning a photograph at resolutions higher than 150 to 200 dpi only produces a larger file, not more detail." Few sources advise you this of this limitation, but knowing this can save you some fruitless headaches trying to get impossible results

	Hi LD The photo im trying to scan was taken in 1978 and is Oblong in shape, i scanned it in at 200 pdi saved it, but when i put it on another site it is really small and you can't see the faces of people, if that makes sense Julie

	lol how big was the original photo 6x4 ?? that should scan in at about 640 x 480 pixels and about 276 kbs in size as a jpeg lol

	If you hover your cursor over the unopend pic you should see how many pixels and its size in kbs
