My 3 year old staffie does that, the vet said she is allergic to grass. She now takes piriton tablets every day. Apparently this is quite common with a lot of dogs.

shes says she has not changed anything ..
but she is going to try the bicarb for a few days and see if that works .

Change his diet. Our yellow lab had the same problem but it cleared up when, at the vet's suggestion, we changed his food to a medicated (but a bit expensive) dog food. Now found a cheaper but lamb or chicken based dog food. Had no problem since.

I am almost certain that it is some form of skin allergy. Find out if his food or treats have been changed recently or anything that he would be in contact with. If he has fleas she would be able to see them and he would be itchy all over not just his feet.

hiya, sometimes they do it out of boredom, use antiseptic powder, any one (johnsons)

ive told her on the phone all whats being said shes read the website
she thinks she should take him to the vets although she does think it could be an allergy.

Only been doing it for a few months that def sounds like an allergy to something, has he been given different food or treats or bathed recently? There is a lab that comes into work she has dermatitis (cant spell) and that affests her feet, and I know that treats make this flare up.

I really think he should go to a vets, how old is he?

Our 15 yrd old has begun this couple of months ago - appears now he has a bit of arthritis in his legs - has been on tabs for about 10 days now and the constant licking has disappeared - OH keep threatening to take the pills as Monty is running around like a 2 yr old!

My Rottie used to do this, like it was a habit. It could be to do with mites. Mine used to suffer with bad ear wax too, also caused by dustmites....

THORNIT powder is great and I now use it on my remaining Rottie, in his ears, but I also treat his feet with it.

Try lanicane thats made to stop itching. My dogs the same will lick it off but he doesn't like the taste.

He gets bold patches at the top of his back legs and top of his tail, he's been vets several times for this and haven't had a diagnosis yet, but luckily for me I work at a vet school now, and we have a dermatologist (cant spell, skin specialist lol) coming in soon, so will make sure he has a look and Bandit for me.

I dont know what else to suggest, how long has be been doing it for?

Try putting Savlon or Lanicane onto his feet, for one he wont like the taste and should also soothe the itching. I wouldn't advise you to give a dog any human tablets as at a guess the dose would be too high.

I think it could possibly be a skin disorder or a reaction to something.
