our old bull terrier kept doing this and they were red raw - numerous vets tried to solve the problem with most saying it was caused by dust mites but sadly we never ever got it cured - we used hemp oil on his feet and that helped somewhat and he used to have Oil of Evening Primrose capsules

I haven't unfortunately - but Purple Diamond will - isn't she a vet ..........

Or I would advise your friend to take him to the vets ..

Sorry I couldn't help :-((

Hi Rose, does your friend use any kind of carpet freshener? if so it's probably this causing the feet to itch, I had a friend who use 'shake and vac', it made her jack russels feet sore as well as the stomach through laying on the carpets.
Perhaps a trip to the vets may be in order.

It sounds to me either he has something stuck, like a splinter or similar or even a tick, or a claw growing awkwardly... a visit to the vet is probably the best thing, as they will be able to see properly what is wrong.

Hope your friend gets it sorted for him as soon as possible.

Thanks Ann TJ Gillie Daff.
my friend has no carpets in her place.
i thinks shes going to call the vets to see how much it will cost her for them to look at him.
shes not got much money bless her.
it cant be something stuck as he does it to all his paws.

When a dog does that its usualy a sign of an allergy

A change in diet or new treats can trigger it

Also dogs can develope an allergy to grass pollen as well so there paws become itchy

And this one too

http://vetmedicine.about.com/library/viewers/ucfootcare1a.htm

In fact.. if you type into your search engine About.com and then type in almost any lifestyle problem from animals, pets, health, recipes, a million and one things todo with vinegar, stress management, etc etc it has brilliant advice... although it is an American site, but the principles are good... I've been using it for about 5 years now.

Try putting Savlon or Lanicane onto his feet, for one he wont like the taste and should also soothe the itching. I wouldn't advise you to give a dog any human tablets as at a guess the dose would be too high.

I think it could possibly be a skin disorder or a reaction to something.

X Lairy- Fairy Report 11 Feb 2008 11:42

lol Nikki i was joking about the piriton :-)
my friend has tried savlon but the dogs just licks it off.

Try lanicane thats made to stop itching. My dogs the same will lick it off but he doesn't like the taste.

He gets bold patches at the top of his back legs and top of his tail, he's been vets several times for this and haven't had a diagnosis yet, but luckily for me I work at a vet school now, and we have a dermatologist (cant spell, skin specialist lol) coming in soon, so will make sure he has a look and Bandit for me.

I dont know what else to suggest, how long has be been doing it for?
