Hi All
Just something i have been asked by one of my friends to ask.
Would you use a site that had people doing good turns for eachother?

Like say Mr Brown was a painter and decorater, and did some work for Mr Red who was a plumber and in return did work for Mr Brown. No payment just good will and a way of makeing friends while helping eachother.

The Question is would you be willing to become a member and part of a site that worked this way if there was one?

I guess it would be a good way and thing for people settingup home together to get things done and meet others doing the same.

Thank you

I have always thought that was a brilliant idea in a community Ron. I have heard this works well in some communities...alas...My Oh does lots for others but they are unable or unwilling to reciprocate.

There are so many people who can do things others can't and vice versa..A sharing of skills would be a great asset to any community.

I hope you get the website going and at this stage would answer your question as a yes.

Yes I would. Having come from a farming community this was, and very much still is, common practise, including the exchange of goods, ie. a bag of spuds for a bag of swedes etc.

It's a good idea but would need to be in regions, otherwise Mr Brown's skills in Newcastle won't help Mr Smith in Bristol.
Some people might not want to disclose whereabouts they lived, so would have reservations about a public site.

If you can overcome those hurdles, it could be an asset to a community.

Ron

I and seven friends all have different skills and for twenty year have done this

example

I look after all their computers be it work or home for free in return if say i need some wood work doing or some plastering they come and do it for free i just buy the materials.

One thing i would say is if someone is going to do this i would think he would have to make it as a county by county thing or people would be unwilling to travel long distances

nudge

i did tell him it would have to be county by county thing if he was to do it. I also said he would have to have a posting page in each county and a internal email thing so people could contact eachother, and that it would be upto the members to sort things out as far as information goes although the site may have details of members they must be kept confidentuel and what ever the agreement is between two members as far as the work thing goes it the responsability of said members not the site. The site is just there to help put people contact eachother.

♥Athena Report 8 Feb 2008 12:26

Yes, I think it's a good idea. I'd join it if I had a skill to swap for something.

Now...what could I offer to others, as a trade-less female? Aha - how about "If I make you a cake would you come and fix my leaky loo?" LOL.

I am sure that I have heard of one of these schemes around here somewhere.

Don't know the logistics of it though.

we are members of freecycle which is brilliant.

I would have done this but now I don't have the time anymore as have just gone back to work.

We have a system similar to this that is called the Barter system and I think you get points if you do something for someone, you can then use those points to get work done for you by someone else. Not sure how they work out how many points a job is worth, but it seems to work very well. They may work it out as so many points per hour. Something like that anyway.

Ron

One thing

The T & C of the site must be like ducks bum and thats water tight for the owner

because at the end of the day if something goes wrong he as the owner would bere the brunt of any leale issue

I'd be up for it but could only offer say lifts in my car or to do shopping, things like that. Would be a good idea to incorporate into this scheme a system of disposing of unwanted articles -e.g. you have a microwave you no longer want or need, or a table, or a computer, some garden furniture, etc.
