Wow Kim, good for Tom! That was my immediate reaction - still is.
Then I read your latest posting, about the knife. Good God, it doesn't bear thinking about, does it.

Glenys , the thing is , its happening everywhere . Kids 12 and younger .. they do not understand , they may look "hard " being tooled up but it only takes one stupid fight to end someones life and ruin anothers .The stuff they see on the TV and on games doesn,t show the real life consiquences of one stupid action .. Sorry , I,m a Mum, didn,t want to depress people on here ...

Tassietina in Oz Report 7 Feb 2008 22:51

Good on your son Kim, these bullies need to be pulled into line. My son was always the smallest in his class and therefore a target for bullies. Little did the bullies know that he had been studying Tai Kwan Do for three years, so he put up with it for a while and then one day he had had enough so he unceremoniously decked the bully. No more bullying! 'Onya Tom!!!

To all those kids who have to deal with the bullys every day at school .. one day they pick on someone they underestimated ,that may be you or someone else . When that day comes ..and someone stands up to them , see how popular they are then and how quickly their mates disappear ? and see how popular the person who stood up to them is ? ....Bullies are cowards ! Hi
This brought back memories, i was bullied from the age of 5 by a certain girl right through till i was 15, one day she would be nice and talk to me the next her and her friends would go out of there way to barge me in the school hall.
But one day she came towards me in the corridor so i moved over, so did she so when she got close to me i some how found my self on top of her hitting her head on the floor ( doesnt sound good i know --but made me feel soooo much better) She actully ended up down the hospital with concussion.
I know i shouldnt be proud of it but i am, 10 yrs of anger and hurt and she never even looked at me again even now 22 yrs later i see her and she looks away.
So give your son a pat on the back bullys need to be shown thay cant do this. Ive always said to mykids that all bullys will pick on the wrong person one day, there is always someone bigger and better out there and this time it was your son.
Good on him

It,s amazing how being bullied at school still hurts people later in life .... I,m only just getting to understand it , as Toms messages from kids at school have said tonight ,sometimes they feel helpless, stupid even cowardly because they are between a rock and a hard place, they think the cool kids will laugh at them ... message.... most of the cool kids are cool cos they don,t bully others , they are confident enough not to have to prove themselves and if you feel bullied they will stand up for you big time .just ask
The bullies at school are not cool kids ( cool kids are the ones who have loads of friends who are all different and they do not judge them in any way ) , bullies stick to their own kind , they avoid the cool kids cos they know they can,t intimmedate them an if they do , they get whats coming ! Ask our Tom ...LOL

You have obviously done a great job bringing him up the way you have, manners, respect and knowing when to step back and when to react! Good for him, I hope that bully thinks again next time he wants to start something. I bet he won't be so brave another time, maybe this will be the turning point for him and he will realise it isn't cool or clever to bully people.
Hope Tom's knuckles aren't too sore, get some arnica cream on them if there is no broken skin, the bruising will come out and then heal much faster.
